The Michael Jackson Prize (also known as the Vanguard Award) is given to a musician or director whose achievements and contributions have significantly contributed to the development of the industry. The honor was given to Beyonce in 2014 and Kanye West in 2015, followed by Rihanna and Pink in 2016 and 2017, respectively. An impressive roster indeed.
This year, the MTV Video Music Awards have decided to pay tribute to Jennifer Lopez. While this decision needs no explanation, suffice to say that the superstar’s music career includes 80 million records sold worldwide, 40 million albums, 16 Top 10 hit songs, three No.1 albums and an incredibly successful Las Vegas residency; not to mention that the artist, who was also named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People, has two more nominations up her sleeve: “Best Collaboration” for her song with Cardi B and DJ Khaled, and “Best Latino.”
Catch J-Lo and all the best moments of the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards on August 20.
