The founder unpacks his newly launched label and reveals how Funner champions performance and passion.&nbsp;

It's no secret—finding the perfect hair care routine is almost a Herculean task. With more products, literature, and viral routines populating the zeitgeist than ever before, navigating the noise isn't easy. Enter Funner—a new professional-grade hair care label co-founded by Jonah Kaner, Daniel Kaner, and Sonia Kashuk. The brand approaches hair with a unique philosophy, aiming to deliver salon-level performance with the freedom to experiment.&nbsp;
"Hair is a massive part of a person's identity," Kaner tells L'OFFICIEL. "For many people, it sets the tone for their confidence, how they dress, how they move through the world, and how they feel about themselves. Everyone has had the good, the bad, and the ugly with their hair."&nbsp;

Rather than prescribing labels across gender, hair type, or texture, Funner invites its community to explore their own personal style and create a custom routine for every impulse, occasion, and desire. In keeping with the label's core philosophy, each product is designed to function as a tool for expression, rather than correction—so every "good" hair day feels truly personal.&nbsp;

L’OFFICIEL: What inspired you to launch Funner?&nbsp;
JONAH KANER: I was inspired to launch Funner almost as an art project: bringing together amazing collaborators to reimagine hair care and create a new kind of energy for the salon channel and for stylists around the world.
For me, hair care, makeup, and beauty have always been fun, passionate, emotional, and celebratory. I grew up around incredible artists, and beauty always felt alive. But in hair care specifically, it felt like things had become a little cold and clinical. The craft, emotion, and energy needed to be reignited. That is where Funner is meant to live. It offers performance you can trust, but within a world that invites curiosity, enjoyment, and hopefully a smile.

L’O:&nbsp;How do you see people approaching hair health differently today than they did five years ago?
JK: I think hair health has changed in the same way our understanding of health overall has changed. People are more active, more curious, more experimental, and more informed than they were five or ten years ago. There is a bigger desire to understand the foundation, not just the finished look.
With hair, that means people are thinking about longevity, strength, shine, and overall quality in a much more intentional way. The goal is to have hair that feels healthy and alive, so that it can support whatever styling inspiration you may have. Healthy hair becomes the base that allows you to play, transform, and express yourself.
L’O: How has the definition of "luxury" in hair care evolved?
JK: Luxury has evolved everywhere, not just in hair care. I am very inspired by LVMH and Bernard Arnault’s view of luxury through the lens of creativity and quality. That really resonates with me.
Today, luxury is the full experience. It starts the moment you discover something, whether that is on social media, in a magazine, in a store, or in a salon, and it continues through how you use it and how it makes you feel afterward. To me, something feels luxurious when it has real quality, a distinct point of view, creativity, and personality.
Of course, in hair care, performance has to be there. You need to trust the product and believe in it. But performance alone is not luxury. Luxury is when that trust is paired with imagination, emotion, and a feeling that makes the product memorable.

L’O: Why did it feel important to understand the emotional relationship that many people have with their hair? To you, what role does this play in developing a hair care routine? 
JK: Hair is a massive part of a person's identity. For many people, it sets the tone for their confidence, how they dress, how they move through the world, and how they feel about themselves. Everyone has had the good, the bad, and the ugly with their hair.
To us, there is no such thing as bad hair. We want people to wear their hair in different ways, to try things, to experiment, and to feel like hair can be playful. A routine should support that emotional relationship, not make it feel restrictive. It should help you feel confident enough to evolve.
L’O: What do you define as “good hair”? 
JK: Good hair is any hair that you want to wear. It is hair that feels like you, in that moment.

L’O: What inspired the unique visual language of the brand?
JK: M/M Paris really led the way in creating the brand and the packaging design. To me, they were always the definition of Funner. They were the first people who came to mind, the dream collaborators we wanted to work with to help define the brand from the very beginning.
Their ability to weave graphics, feeling, imagery, and uniqueness into the luxury world is something very few people can do. They have a natural playfulness to them, but it is always sophisticated and elevated. That combination felt Funner before they even picked up the pen!
Jamie Hawkesworth and Christiaan Houtenbos were also amazing collaborators in shaping the initial visual world of the brand. It was really important to leverage Jamie’s film photography, natural daylight, and real people. There is a humanity and intimacy in that work that felt essential to Funner.
Christiaan has this incredible ability to transform a person from the moment they step onto set, helping them see the vision of their best self. That energy is very connected to what hair can do emotionally. It can shift how you feel, how you carry yourself, and how you see yourself.
We wanted to weave all of that together across every touchpoint, down to the merchandising pieces and accessories, so that Funner feels like one cohesive brand and not something limited in scope to just hair care. The imagery, packaging, products, and objects are all meant to create a world that feels fun, curious, emotional, and alive.
