<p>From a legacy-rich family house to an anonymous next-gen collective, meet the designers to watch at Tokyo's upcoming Spring/Summer 2027 Fashion Week.</p>

<p>Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo will run from August 31 through September 5, 2026, with 28 confirmed collections for the Spring/Summer 2027 season. The schedule includes 25 official designer shows, including four debuts, as well as three partnership shows. Nine collections will come from overseas, with another brand showing through Rakuten’s “by R” project. Shibuya Hikarie will remain the main venue, although we can also expect a handful of presentations at the designers’ own locations.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The season follows the Japan Fashion Week Organization’s 20th anniversary and marks the beginning of its next chapter. JFWO has said it wants to strengthen Tokyo’s position as a platform for Japan-based designers while building closer relationships with international fashion events. This season, physical shows remain central, even as presentation formats continue to diversify globally.</p>

<h3 style="text-align: center;">Yoshiokubo by Yoshio Kubo</h3>

<p>Yoshio Kubo will open Tokyo's Fashion Week on August 31. The presentation will be by invitation only.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Founded in 2004, yoshiokubo grew out of Kubo’s international training. He graduated from Philadelphia University’s School of Textile &amp; Science in 2000 before spending four years in New York as an assistant to haute couture designer Robert Danes. Kubo returned to Japan in 2004 to establish his own label.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The designer’s approach centers on making people reconsider the meaning of clothing, including the details that shape how a garment is worn. That philosophy has made yoshiokubo a distinctive presence in Japanese menswear. The label works across ready-to-wear, shoes, bags, and accessories, allowing Kubo to explore the relationship between the body, clothing, and styling.</p>
<p>As the opening name on the schedule, yoshiokubo sets the tone for a season that places established Japanese designers alongside younger and more internationally oriented labels.</p>

<h3 style="text-align: center;">Eitaro by Eitarou Kamimura</h3>

<p>Eitaro was established by Eitarou Kamimura, who was born in Yamaguchi Prefecture in 2001. Kamimura’s collection debut in runway format marked an early step in the development of a designer whose work is closely connected to Tokyo’s emerging fashion scene. EITARO is categorized as a womenswear ready-to-wear label, and its inclusion in the official schedule highlights the importance of giving younger designers a visible place within the city’s fashion system. &nbsp;</p>
<p>There is no need to overstate Eitaro’s position. Kamimura is still an emerging name, which is precisely what makes the brand worth watching. His clean silhouettes that are often matched with pops of color and fun textiles offer a glimpse into his style as a designer shaping the next generation of Japanese fashion.</p>

<h3 style="text-align: center;">Pillings by Ryota Murakami</h3>

<p>Ryota Murakami’s pillings was established in 2020, when his former label, RYOTAMURAKAMI, was renamed to mark a new chapter. The brand is built around an interest in craftsmanship and the people who preserve specialized techniques. &nbsp;</p>
<p>Murakami has developed pillings through collaborations with Japanese hand-knitting artisans, treating knitwear as both a design discipline and a canvas for skilled labor.&nbsp;That focus gives the label a particular emotional quality. Pillings is concerned with how garments are made, who makes them, and how traditional knowledge can continue to evolve. The result is knitwear with a strong sense of texture, intimacy, and human touch.</p>
<p>The brand’s official concept refers to expressing “affection for craftsmanship and its background.” That idea remains central to understanding why Pillings has become one of the more closely followed names in Tokyo’s contemporary fashion landscape.&nbsp;</p>

<h3 style="text-align: center;">Haute Mode Hirata by Ohko Hirata, Saki Hirata, and Sho Hirata</h3>

<p>The family-operated label’s most recent Rakuten Fashion Week presentation was organized to coincide with the 100th anniversary of its founder's birth. Akio Hirata was a celebrated Japanese milliner whose work helped shape the country’s hatmaking tradition through an emphasis on creativity, craftsmanship, and technical precision. &nbsp;</p>
<p>The anniversary show brought together three generations of the Hirata family. Ohko Hirata, Akio Hirata’s daughter, leads Akio Hirata Ohko. Saki Hirata became the chief designer of "H.at" in 2022, while her children, Saki and Sho Hirata, co-lead. Together, the family’s work connects the house’s history to a more contemporary approach to millinery. &nbsp;</p>
<p>Among this season’s watchlist, Haute Mode Hirata is the clearest reminder that Tokyo Fashion Week extends beyond conventional ready-to-wear. Its presence places hats, handwork, and fashion history at the center of the conversation.</p>

<p>Anna Choi is a womenswear brand founded by designer Anna Choi in 2025. Choi studied fashion in New York, the United Kingdom, and Tokyo before establishing her own label.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Rooted in the spirit of haute couture, the designer brings together Japanese craftsmanship, European techniques, New York’s fashion perspective, and Choi’s Korean heritage. The label’s approach is centered on made-to-order and ready-to-wear pieces that emphasize longevity, construction, and a sense of occasion.&nbsp;Choi’s international background gives the brand a broad point of reference, but Tokyo remains an important part of its identity. Her work reflects the increasingly fluid movement between fashion capitals while maintaining a close connection to Japanese production and artisanal skill.</p>
<p>The label is a useful example of how emerging designers are expanding the language of Tokyo fashion. Choi does not treat heritage and modernity as opposing forces; rather, she places them within the same wardrobe, and they work in tandem.&nbsp;</p>

<h3 style="text-align: center;">Orimi by Kenta Orimi</h3>

<p>Orimi is led by Kenta Orimi and works across menswear and womenswear, as well as shoes, bags and accessories.&nbsp;He began working as a vintage buyer as a teenager and later gained experience in product planning and buying through two Tokyo apparel stores. In 2019, he opened The Elephant, a vintage and designer shop in Harajuku. He launched Orimi in 2020. &nbsp;</p>
<p>That background is essential to understanding the label. Ormi is shaped not only by design but also by collecting, styling, and the act of placing garments in conversation with one another. The brand’s visual language draws strength from the tension between the familiar and the unexpected. The sustainability focus of thrifting and collecting is also very timely.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Ormi’s official concept is “Superfine garment for all the outsiders." That phrase describes a commitment to refined clothing that exists outside conventional definitions of luxury or belonging. &nbsp;</p>
<p>The label brings a buyer’s eye to the runway. Its clothes are designed to be considered as individual pieces but also as part of a larger wardrobe shaped by personal history and discovery. The sustainability aspect of thrifting and collecting is also very timely.</p>

<h3 style="text-align: center;">Khoki by the Khoki design team&nbsp;</h3>

<p>Khoki was founded in Tokyo in 2019 and is created by a collective design team. The brand will present through Rakuten’s “by R” project. &nbsp;</p>
<p>The label describes its creative starting point through the thrill of flea-market discovery. The reference suggests a world of unexpected objects, historical fragments and contrasting influences brought together through clothing. Khokis collections combine playful details with a strong interest in memory, craft and the passage of time. &nbsp;</p>
<p>The collective approach is central to the brand’s identity. Rather than placing one designer’s biography at the center of every collection, they present fashion as a conversation between different references and sensibilities. Notable past elements from the Spring 26 collection include denim and lace, tie-dyed office wear, and a pinstripe suit with leather pockets.&nbsp;</p>
<p>After winning the Tokyo Fashion Award in 2023 and earning a spot as a semifinalist for the 2024 LVMH Prize, the brand's combination of the polish of history with contemporary flair is a growing favorite and a fitting brand to watch at the end of the week.</p>
