In&nbsp;Paris,&nbsp;Marie Lichtenberg&nbsp;transforms&nbsp;sentiment,&nbsp;superstition,&nbsp;and a touch of&nbsp;mischief&nbsp;into&nbsp;covetable fine jewelry.

Jewelry designer Marie Lichtenberg embodies that enviable Parisian ease—an effortless, unmistakable chic. Think white T-shirts and perfectly worn-in jeans, a fresh face, and layers of signature gold: an oversized M pendant, a diamond-studded wood die and horseshoe, and bold gold cuffs emblazoned with&nbsp;Lucky as Fuck in diamonds.
It’s her irreverent approach to fine jewelry that first draws attention. But Lichtenberg isn’t interested in fads. Her designs are deeply personal, rooted in authenticity and emotional resonance. Each piece captures a moment, a feeling—whether it’s a Magic 8 Ball pendant (because we all seek advice), a diamond-set Touch Wood charm (who isn’t superstitious?), or her hexagonal-shaped Gold Weight pendants stamped with their weight in grams (a playful yet pointed take on wearable investments).
At its core, her work taps into something universal: our instinct to assign meaning to objects—a talisman, a memory, or a source of joy.
But Lichtenberg didn’t set out to build a jewelry business. After years working as an editor and stylist, she found herself at home with her first child, restless and creatively adrift. She designed a locket for her daughter, engraved with the words Love You To The Moon—based on a locket from her mother, who was born in Martinique and passed down the distinctive barrel-shaped locket design inspired by Creole tradition.
The piece struck a chord. Friends and family wanted their own. With no formal training, Lichtenberg designed 40 pieces and launched her first collection. “I had nothing to lose,” she recalls.

Seven years later, she’s still surprised by its success. A breakthrough moment came when she presented at the Couture Jewelry Show in Las Vegas, where retailers quickly lined up to place orders. Imitations followed, but they never slowed her momentum. With characteristic humor, she even recreated some of her most popular designs in resin, just for fun. “The only thing you can do is keep looking forward,” she says. “This business is hard work. You need constant investment—in gold, stones, new designs. I’m learning all the time.”
Whether it’s her diamond-encrusted phrases or her cheeky Dick in a Box—a gold locket ring that opens to reveal a miniature diamond surprise—Lichtenberg insists her work is never about shock value. “I don’t design to be different,” she explains. “I design what I’m feeling. But if you’re going to be irreverent, the craftsmanship has to be impeccable.”
That commitment is evident in her pieces, most of which are crafted in Italy by skilled goldsmiths using high-quality gemstones and diamonds. Beneath the humor lies precision, refinement, and a deep respect for traditional techniques. She remains best known for her original lockets, which have since evolved into a wide range of styles and price points, including bespoke commissions. Barrel-shaped lockets conceal hidden messages, while her scapulas—modern interpretations of religious pendants—feature engraved words and symbols designed in enamel and with gemstones on both sides.&nbsp;
Always experimenting, Lichtenberg continues to expand her creative vocabulary. Her latest collection incorporates leather and plexiglass alongside gold and diamonds, a stylish response to rising gold prices without sacrificing artistry. “It’s a new playground,” she says. “It’s super cool.”

Her latest move is another expressive, bold step. This spring, she opened a showroom and by-appointment salon in Saint-Germain, just steps from the home she shares with her husband and their two children. Designed as an extension of her world, the space reflects her aesthetic—moss-green walls, stacks of books, and flea-market finds alongside fine art. There’s even a margarita bar, which, she jokes, helps “when things get complicated.”

The salon serves her growing Paris clientele, while she considers expanding to New York, where she has a devoted following, along with Los Angeles. Each city, she notes, has its own jewelry sensibility. “In Paris, style is more discreet. New Yorkers love bold, stacked gold pieces. In LA, there’s a sense of humor and real joy. They don’t take jewelry too seriously.” That philosophy mirrors her own. Outside of work, she spends time with family and friends, travels often, and indulges in simple pleasures. “I love to read, and I love to eat,” she says. “I’m a very basic woman.” It’s a modest claim for someone whose designs are anything but.&nbsp;
Reflecting on an increasingly complex world, Lichtenberg sees her work in a broader context. “If someone invests in my jewelry, it has to mean something,” she says. “For me, jewelry is a small piece of humanity. You can feel that it’s handmade, that it carries meaning. I think we desperately need that right now.” And even better if it makes you smile.&nbsp;
