<p>Seán McGirr is leaving McQueen after three years as creative director. Parent company Kering announced the departure on October 15, marking the end of the Irish designer’s tenure at the British fashion house. A successor has yet to be named, with the house confirming that it will announce new creative leadership soon.</p>
<p>McGirr joined McQueen in 2023, succeeding Sarah Burton and taking on the task of bringing his own perspective to a house with an intensely personal creative legacy. His appointment followed roles at JW Anderson, where he served as head of ready-to-wear, as well as Dries Van Noten and Uniqlo. A graduate of Central Saint Martins, he arrived with a background spanning both menswear and womenswear.</p>
<p>Throughout his tenure, McGirr explored the relationship between the house’s precise construction and a more instinctive expression of beauty. In the departure announcement, he described his approach as grounded in the interplay between “raw, visceral, human beauty” and the discipline of the McQueen atelier. He also expressed pride in the team’s creative energy and its connections to contemporary art, music, and cinema.</p>
<p>His exit comes shortly after McQueen’s Spring/Summer 2027 show in London, a homecoming for the label and a significant moment in his final season. The presentation brought the house back to the city where its founder developed his creative identity, placing London’s cultural influence at the center of the collection.</p>
<p>That connection also figured prominently in the company’s farewell. In the announcement, McQueen president and CEO Gianfranco D’Attis credited McGirr with helping reconnect the house to London and its creative community, while thanking the designer, studio, and wider teams for their contributions.</p>
<p>Kering CEO Luca de Meo, meanwhile, outlined an ambition to establish a new direction rooted in the house’s tailoring, creativity, and rebellious spirit. The statement offered no specific reason for McGirr’s departure.</p>
<p>For his part, McGirr thanked the studio, atelier, and craftspeople who helped realize his collections, closing with a look toward his own future: “I look forward to my next chapter and wish the House every success.”</p>
