Born in Copenhagen to a Dutch father and a Peruvian mother, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/helena-christensen-best-runway-moments-supermodel-versace" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Helena Christensen</a> never had to chase the spotlight&mdash;it always found her. She first gained recognition after winning Miss Universe Denmark in 1986, later representing her country at the Miss Universe pageant in Panama that same year. Following her success as a finalist in the Look of the Year 1987 competition, Christensen moved to Paris to pursue modeling full-time. Her career reached new heights in 1990 when she starred in Chris Isaak&rsquo;s iconic &ldquo;Wicked Game&rdquo; music video. Shot in stark simplicity, the video spotlighted Christensen&rsquo;s quiet confidence and was ranked among the sexiest music videos of all time by MTV and VH1.
Throughout the early to mid-&rsquo;90s, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop-culture/celebrities-christmas-day-birthdays-helena-christensen-justin-trudeau" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Christensen</a> became one of fashion&rsquo;s most in-demand faces. In 1992, she signed on as a spokesperson for Revlon. She appeared on the covers of Vogue, Elle, Harper&rsquo;s Bazaar, and W. She fronted campaigns for houses including Chanel, Versace, and Karl Lagerfeld, and became one of the original Victoria&rsquo;s Secret Angels alongside Tyra Banks and Karen Mulder.
In 1996, The New York Times&rsquo; Frank DeCaro named Christensen one of &ldquo;The Magnificent Seven,&rdquo; grouping her with supermodel legends Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, Elle Macpherson, and Claudia Schiffer.By the late &rsquo;90s, Christensen began expanding her creative reach beyond modeling. She co-founded Nylon magazine in 1999 and later launched fashion ventures including Christensen &amp; Sigersen, a vintage clothing line, and a lingerie collaboration with Triumph. An accomplished photographer, her work has appeared in Nylon, ELLE, and Marie Claire, and has been exhibited internationally.
Alongside her creative pursuits, Christensen has long been committed to philanthropy, supporting causes ranging from breast cancer awareness to climate change advocacy. Still active in fashion today, she continues to model, walk runways, and grace magazine covers&mdash;cementing her legacy as one of fashion&rsquo;s most enduring and iconic figures.
