The highly anticipated nominations for the 78th annual Emmy Awards have been announced in a live-stream <a href="https://www.televisionacademy.com/events/78th-emmy-nominations-announcement">presentation</a> co-hosted by two previous Emmy winners, Liza Colón-Zayas (<em>The Bear</em>) and Jeff Hiller (<em>Somebody Somewhere</em>), on July 8.&nbsp;</span><b></b></p>
<p dir="ltr"><span>The nominees for two categories—Outstanding Variety Series and Outstanding Reality Competition Program—were released early by NBC’s </span><em>Today</em><span>, ahead of the official announcement from the Academy.&nbsp;</span><b></b></p>
<p dir="ltr"><span>The 2026 Emmy Awards will be held on Monday, Sept. 14, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The ceremony will air live on NBC and stream on Peacock. Usually, the Emmys are held on Sundays, but this year’s time slot change was due to an NFL game scheduled to air on NBC.&nbsp;</span><b></b></p>
<p dir="ltr"><span>It’s also one of the few times that the Emmy Awards have not chosen a comedian or sitcom actor to host the annual awards show, such as Nate Bargatze (<em>Schitt’s Creek</em>) or Jimmy Kimmel in recent years. This year, the Emmy Awards will be hosted by the Emmy-winning actress Mariska Hargitay, best known for her longstanding role as Olivia Benson on <em>Law &amp; Order: SVU</em> for 27 seasons.&nbsp;</span><b></b></p>
<p dir="ltr"><span>This year, </span><em>The Pitt</em><span> is in the lead, with 25 nominations for its standout sophomore season, and </span><em>Hacks</em><span> leads the comedy categories, with a total of 24 nominations.
