Hulu's twisty new thriller turns a serial-killer pursuit into a complicated study of right and wrong.

This summer, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/is-hulu-down-handmaids-tale-season-6-premiere">Hulu</a> is giving viewers a new reason to stay inside. Premiered on July 27 with its first three episodes, Furious follows an FBI agent pursuing a mysterious female serial killer through <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/travel-living/summer-events-concerts-free-things-to-do-in-new-york-city-2026">New York City</a>. As the investigation draws the two women closer together, however, the distinction between justice and vengeance becomes increasingly difficult to maintain.
The eight-part crime drama marks Emmy Rossum's first television series since her appearance in <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/lucky-tv-show-apple-tv-plot-cast-trailer-release-date-anya-taylor-joy">Apple TV'</a>s The Crowded Room in 2023. She leads the cast alongside Lola Petticrew, Scoot McNairy, and Quincy Tyler Bernstine. With audience ratings generally climbing across its released episodes, the slow-burning cat-and-mouse thriller is quickly becoming one of the summer's most worthwhile watches.
Created and written by Elizabeth Meriwether, known for New Girl and The Dropout, the series is inspired by the 1987 neo-noir film Black Widow. Meriwether also executive produced alongside Rossum, Ronald Bass—who wrote the original Black Widow—Matt Olmstead, Sam Hoffman, and Brian Kirk, who directed the first two episodes.

Furious introduces its version of New York City through a chilling collision of the ordinary and the sinister. On Halloween night, children move from door to door in search of candy while a terribly wounded man struggles to escape a townhouse. Waiting outside is a mysterious woman in a cat mask, appearing unnervingly at ease amid the neighborhood festivities.
By the following morning, the man—who turns out to be the son of a powerful billionaire—is found dead on the townhouse staircase. Although his death initially appears to be an accidental overdose, former NYPD homicide detective Alice Black notices details that suggest the scene may have been carefully arranged.
Now working for the FBI and hoping to join its sex crimes unit, Alice begins connecting the death to an earlier case. The trail eventually leads toward Catherine Grace, a survivor pursuing her own ruthless conception of justice against wealthy men connected to a wider system of exploitation. Rather than concealing its killer's identity,&nbsp;Furious turns its attention to the parallel lives of hunter and hunted.

Emmy Rossum, best known as Fiona Gallagher in Shameless and Christine Daaé in the 2004 film adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera, stars as Alice Black, an FBI agent and former NYPD homicide detective.
Lola Petticrew plays Catherine Grace, a sex-trafficking survivor and serial killer who assumes different identities while targeting wealthy men. Petticrew previously appeared in the fantasy film Tuesday and the historical drama Say Nothing. She is also set to star in Netflix's forthcoming live-action adaptation of Assassin's Creed.
Quincy Tyler Bernstine appears as Nora Washington, the head of the FBI's sex crimes unit and an unofficial mentor to Alice.&nbsp;
Scoot McNairy plays Danny Kelly, Alice's former NYPD partner and one of the few people who continued to support her after she left the department.&nbsp;
Jake Lacy plays Marshall, Alice's abusive ex-boyfriend and a detective with the NYPD. Lacy recently appeared as husband and father Peter Irvine in the mystery thriller&nbsp;All Her Fault.

The first season of Furious consists of eight hour-long episodes. Hulu released the opening three installments together on July 27, with one new episode arriving every Monday afterward. The season finale is scheduled for Aug. 31, 2026.
Furious is streaming on Hulu with new episodes released weekly through the end of August.
