At just 24 years old, Lukita Maxwell has the kind of presence that feels increasingly rare and has already proven herself to be one of Hollywood&rsquo;s rising talents to keep a close eye on. Her latest project, Backrooms, places her alongside Renate Reinsve and Chiwetel Ejiofor in A24&rsquo;s upcoming psychological horror film premiering May 29.
Ahead of the premiere, Maxwell invited L&rsquo;OFFICIEL into the getting-ready process, offering a glimpse into the world she&rsquo;s building both on and off screen. Dressed in Spring/Summer 2026 Chlo&eacute;, she embodied the label&rsquo;s signature romanticism with an ease that felt lived-in rather than overly styled. When asked to describe her style, her friends reportedly call it &ldquo;small-town girl in a big fashion world,&rdquo; and after seeing Maxwell, it&rsquo;s easy to understand exactly what they mean.

L'OFFICIEL: Can you describe your outfit for&nbsp;the&nbsp;Backrooms premiere? What was the thought process behind the look?&nbsp;
LUKITA MAXWELL: My dress is Spring/Summer 2026 Chlo&eacute;, styled by Ryan Young. Chlo&eacute; has been one of my favorite fashion houses since adolescence, so when they sent this as an option, I was ecstatic. The pleats and pattern feel quite Backrooms to me&hellip;duplications and loops. The silhouette unconventional and angular.
L'O: How do you prepare for a premiere? How early does the prep start, and how do you mentally prepare yourself for it?
LM: The prep started the night before, tried to get a full 8 hours of sleep. Drank lots of water. Meditated. We had press for the film throughout the day, and that dropped me into [the] Backrooms world. Finn Bennett, my castmate, stayed with me for the premiere, so we got ready together and piled into the car to watch the film.&nbsp;

L'O: How would you describe your everyday style? Who are your style inspirations, and do you have a signature when it comes to fashion, whether an accessory or something else?&nbsp;
LM: I asked Finn [Bennett] and my boyfriend to describe my style, and they said it&rsquo;s small-town girl in a big fashion world, haha. So I guess comfortable, I love classic silhouettes. My style inspiration comes from my friends, my mom, and people-watching. I&rsquo;ve been wearing a lot of stripey scarves and hair clips.
L'O: You are an extremely talented photographer. How did you get into photography? Do you have a favorite subject to photograph, such as people or nature?&nbsp;
LM: Thank you! My dad put a camera in my hands when I was a kid, and I&rsquo;ve just always loved it. I always love to photograph my friends, but recently have been taking a lot of photos of shadows and light. I&rsquo;m captivated by the shapes they make and how distorted figures become.&nbsp;

L'O: You play Kat in A24's Backrooms. Do you relate to your character, if at all, or how are you different from her?&nbsp;
LM: Kat was so fun to play. I relate to her in the sense that if I were in a similar position, I&rsquo;d definitely be arguing against further exploring the unknown entity of the Backrooms. She&rsquo;s unapologetic and felt like the sole voice of reason in her scenes.&nbsp;
L'O: Lastly, how is Backrooms similar to or different from past projects? What genre are you hoping to try out next?&nbsp;
LM: Backrooms is its own singular world I&rsquo;ll never revisit. I&rsquo;d love to continue exploring the genre of horror. Or dive deeper into a psychological role.&nbsp;
