From Sugar to The Exorcist, the actor reflects on carving out her place in Hollywood without getting starstruck.

Some actors might be starstruck the first time they share a set with veterans like Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, or Colin Farrell. Sasha Calle, 30, isn’t one of them. “Of course I admire and respect them, but I never feel this weird pressure or anxiety, because they’re just people,” she says. “What happens instead is that I work with someone, get to know them, and become friends with them. Then later, I’ll watch their work and think, Oh my gosh. I worked with that person.”
After filming Netflix’s recent action thriller The Rip with Damon and Affleck, Calle caught up with them during the press tour and excitedly praised some of their earlier performances. “They were just like, Sash, you’re late to the party,” she laughs. “I’m really grateful I get to work with actors who have been in this business for so long. Seeing how they work is a huge blessing for me.”
For her latest role, in Season 2 of Apple TV’s sci-fi neo-noir Sugar, Calle stars opposite Farrell, whose titular private investigator was revealed to be an alien in a buzzy first-season twist. Calle plays Gina, “a hustler,” who’s just trying to survive. “I know that feeling where it seems like all the odds are against you, and you have to figure it out to make money and eat,” she says. “I’ve felt that desperation. After I graduated college, I had every job you could think of. It was just like, How do I get through? That hustler mentality can be really relatable.”

Calle, who spent three years on The Young and the Restless before making her feature debut as Supergirl in 2023’s The Flash, now spends her downtime in LA with her Great Dane, Dragon, who frequently accompanied her to set. “He’s a magical creature,” she says. “I’d put him in the golf cart and we’d drive around.”
Lately, however, work has kept her away from home. In addition to The Rip and Sugar, Calle recently starred in the crime thriller Wardriver and is now filming a new installment of the Exorcist franchise, this one directed by Mike Flanagan and co-starring Scarlett Johansson, Diane Lane, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. “I’m a scaredy-cat and had never done horror before, so I was skeptical,” she says. “But when I met Mike, I just adored him. He really saw me, and that is my dream. He also does Labubu Fridays, which brings everyone so much joy.”
That sense of connection is something Calle hopes to continue to find in future collaborators. She cites filmmakers like Luca Guadagnino, Denis Villeneuve, Emerald Fennell, and Greta Gerwig among those whose work she most admires, while Close director Lukas Dhont remains a dream collaborator, albeit an unlikely one at the moment. “I’d have to really get my French going,” she laughs.

Her creative curiosity extends beyond film. Outside of acting, Calle has become increasingly drawn to fashion; she’s “obsessed” with menswear and enjoys experimenting with tailoring. Some of her everyday staples include Acne Studios jeans and Hanes boys’ large T-shirts, but she plans to keep exploring the fashion space. “I’d never worn a tweed jacket before this shoot, and paired with a tank, boxers, and ripped jeans, it was the coolest thing ever,” she says. “I’m very excited to wear more Chanel.”
She’s also eager to devote more time to another longtime passion: songwriting. “I really need to finish my music,” says Calle, who is influenced by soul, rock, and Latin American music. “I’m a lyric girl, and I love to write music and have a good time dancing around.” Still, after months away filming, her priorities are simple. “Primarily,” she says, “I’m just so excited to see my dog.”
