Whether it be through anthems that keep you moving through a difficult day or storylines that make you emotional, Latino entertainers have been and continue to be at the forefront of said actions in many areas.
In a time where the Latino community continues to face injustice, prejudice, and discrimination from authoritative figures daily, showcasing the elements and energy that we bring into the zeitgeist allows others to continue this enduring legacy. ¡Azúcar! If you recognize this iconic catchphrase, you must know the star behind it. Born in the Santos Suárez neighborhood of Havana, Cuba, Celia Cruz often sang in the middle of the night, at school, and as part of her neighborhood ensemble, Botón de Oro. Even though her father wanted her to attend school to become a teacher, she ultimately studied at the National Conservatory of Music in Havana. Winning radio contests, joining Cuba's Sonora Matancera band, and pivoting to a solo career focused mainly on salsa would be vital to Cruz's rise as a global talent. With a dabbling in acting, successful albums like "Mi vida es cantar" and "La negra tiene tumbao" led the artist to win Latin Grammys and American Grammys. On July 16, 2003, Cruz passed away at the age of 77, and her legacy as a fashion icon, "Queen of Salsa," and one of the greatest Latino talents continues today.

Known as one of the few actors to have secured an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony, alongside the Triple Crown of Acting, Rita Moreno has done it like no one else. Born in Humacao, Puerto Rico, to a farmer and a seamstress who eventually separated, she would ultimately move to New York City with her mother. After landing her first Broadway role at the age of 13, she would head west to Hollywood to commence her film career. However, it wasn't until her role as Anita in the 1961 film&nbsp;West Side Story that her career began to flourish, with the role earning her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Moreno would continue to make waves in TV, theatre, and music throughout the decades and is still making art to this day.

When it comes to a voice that defined a generation of regional Mexican music lovers, Vicente Fernández is the only correct option. Hailing from Huentitán El Alto, Jalisco, Mexico, a then-young boy watched films starring Pedro Infante and Jorge Negrete with his mother. Wanting to "be like them," Fernández learned how to play the guitar and studied folk music before his family moved to Tijuana. While working multiple jobs, he began to sing, play with many mariachi groups, and headed to Mexico City to begin his career. "Volver, Volver," the classic 1972 hit, catapulted Fernández as a ranchera icon and only continued to garner mass success with acting appearances and more than 380 combined albums and single releases. On December 12, 2021, the icon passed away from injuries that occurred after falling at Rancho Los Tres Potrillos in Guadalajara four months earlier.

Easily regarded as one of the most recognizable Mexican comedic actors in history, Eugenio Derbez is a talent who can bring audiences together. From Mexico City, he always had an interest in acting and landed roles as an extra in soap operas at the age of 12. Making a name for himself in Mexican television, he rose to prominence as a variety show host, director, and producer of many successful series. Yet, it wasn't until the comedy sitcom&nbsp;La familia P. Luche was released that Derbez captured the hearts of many viewers across the Americas. Films such as Jack and Jill, Instructions Not Included, and How to Be a Latin Lover only aided in the actor's success, which continues with the upcoming sports drama Baton.

Through her vast work as an actress and one of the most beautiful women in the world, Salma Hayek continues to be a force to be reckoned with. Born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico, to a Lebanese father and a Spanish mother, she landed her first television appearance on&nbsp;Un Nuevo Amanecer. With the massive success of her breakout role, Televisa selected the then-23-year-old to front Mexican telenovela Teresa, which made Hayek a star in the country. After moving to Hollywood to continue her career, she landed television and film roles through the '90s before producing and starring as Frida Kahlo in the 2002 biographical film Frida. The role landed Hayek an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, becoming the first Mexican actress to do so, alongside nods from the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and BAFTAs. She continues to add to her vast filmography, which has made her a standout talent.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The enduring legacy that Selena Quintanilla has left on the Latino entertainment sphere can't be replicated, especially with such a short amount of time. While her parents managed a restaurant in Lake Jackson, she and her siblings would often perform for diners before the 1980s oil glut caused the family to shut down the business, declare bankruptcy, and be evicted from their home. Thus, Selena y Los Dinos was born, a band that played Tejano music for fairs, weddings, and quinceañeras. After being shut down by many venues around Texas due to Selena being the leader of the band, she would ultimately win the Female Vocalist of the Year award at the 1987 Tejano Music Awards and be signed by EMI Latin Records. Songs like "Baila Esta Cumbia," "Como La Flor," and "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" led the artist to win a Grammy, consistently chart on the Billboard charts, and begin work on an English-language album. Unfortunately, Yolanda Saldívar, manager of Selena's boutiques, took the young talent's life away on March 31, 1995. Her legacy as a trailblazer was honored in the 1997 film Selena, starring a young Jennifer Lopez as the "Queen of Tejano Music."

Speaking of Latino music royalty, Ricky Martin is truly considered to be the "King of Latin Pop." Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, he would sing songs from groups like Menudo, Journey, and Led Zeppelin with a wooden kitchen spoon. After starring in television commercials, Martin joined Menudo as the newest member of the group, easily becoming a fan favorite. When leaving the group and preparing to embark on his college journey at New York University, he joined a friend to watch the musical comedy play Mama Ama el Rock in Mexico City and took a role in the production. Eventually, he landed a solo music recording contract and released four studio albums before dropping Ricky Martin, his first English project. "Livin' la Vida Loca," the leading track, is Martin's most successful hit and one of the best-selling of all time. Multiple albums, acting roles, and philanthropic endeavors later, he came out as gay in March 2010 and is happily married to Syrian-Swedish painter Jwan Yosef.

As once said by television icon Gloria Delgado-Pritchett from Modern Family, "I am not a hot head, I am Colombian!" The woman behind this well-loved character is none other than Sofia Vergara. From Barranquilla, Atlántico, Colombia, she intended to be a dentist but pursued jobs in modeling and show business. When her brother was murdered during a kidnapping attempt, she emigrated to the United States and got gigs on Univision programs like Sabado Gigante, Primer Impacto, and El Gordo y La Flaca. An appearance as Matron Mama Morton in Chicago on Broadway gave her more exposure, and in the same year, Vergara got a starring role in Modern Family, earning her multiple Emmy nominations. Many ventures later, she portrayed Griselda Blanco in Netflix's Griselda, making her the first Latina born in a Latin American country to be nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie at the 2024 Emmys.

Although you may recognize him from his portrayal of Cassian Andor in&nbsp;Rogue One and Andor, Diego Luna has been in the industry for quite some time. Born in Toluca to a British costume designer and set designer, he was raised in Mexico City and held a close friendship with actor and frequent co-star Gael García Bernal. With roles in multiple telenovelas and films, Luna's breakout occurred in the Mexican road trip film Y tu mamá tambien alongside García Bernal. A key figure in the Nuevo Cine Mexicano film movement, he continued to make waves in The Book of Life, Narcos: Mexico, and México 86, with upcoming projects like&nbsp;A Mouthful of&nbsp;Ash&nbsp;and&nbsp;Eleven&nbsp;Days.

If you watched the FIFA World Cup 2026 Opening Ceremony, you probably heard the lyrics "Oye, mi amor, no me digas que no / Y vamos juntando las almas." Well, regardless if you're familiar with the 1992 track "Oye Mi Amor," you know the band behind that and many other iconic songs: Maná. Currently comprised of vocalist-guitarist Fher Olvera, drummer Alex González, guitarist Sergio Vallín, and bassist Juan Calleros, the pop-rock band is the most successful Latin American band in history, with over 45 million records sold globally. Originally known as Sombrero Verde in 1980, they decided to rename the group after six years and released their debut studio album, Maná, the following year. Inspirations from rock, Latin pop, reggae, and ska genres only drove the band to further success, which has landed them four Grammys, eight Latin Grammys, and 19 Billboard Latin Music Awards, amongst others. Maná is currently on its 11th tour, the Vivir Sin Aire North América Tour, which will continue until the end of the year.

Arguably the most famous Latino entertainer in recent times, Bad Bunny is a trailblazer in many facets of culture. The Bayamón-born rapper, actor, and singer-songwriter often listened to CDs of Vico C, Marc Anthony, and Víctor Manuelle as a child before switching over to Daddy Yankee and Héctor Lavoe on the radio in his early teens. Aiming to be a radio host, he studied audiovisual communications at the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo while working at a grocery store. In 2016, "Diles" was heard by DJ Luian from SoundCloud, and Bad Bunny was signed to the record label Hear this Music. Dubbed the "King of Latin Trap," collaborations with artists like Karol G, Cardi B, and J Balvin made the artist more known, especially after highly successful album releases. In February 2026, Bad Bunny became the first artist to win Album of the Year with a Spanish-language album, that being his sixth studio album,&nbsp;Debí Tirar Más Fotos. A few weeks later, he became the first solo Latino artist to headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show, which earned nine Emmy nominations, the most for a halftime show performance in history. Whether it be through his extensive advocacy work, one-of-a-kind charisma on screen, or his statement-making outfits, Bad Bunny is a unique soul.&nbsp;

To wrap up this star-studded list is a talent that is only getting bigger day by day. Born in Alexandria, Virginia, to a Colombian father and an American mother, Karly Marina Loaiza spent her early years between Western Colombia and the U.S. However, as she skipped class and broke curfew set by her parents during high school, she was kicked out of her home and lived in her car. Originally, she was interested in directing films rather than being in the spotlight. With the nickname "Karluchis," Loaiza modified it to the name that we know today: Kali Uchis. From her debut mixtape "Drunken Babble" and EP "Por Vida" to success on "Isolation" and "Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios)," the artist has garnered a fan base of young, predominantly Latino fans who relate to her personal lyrics and sensual synths. With five studio albums, a child, and a self-care brand under her belt, Uchis is currently on tour with Mariah the Scientist, titled "For The Girls Tour."
