At Calvin Klein’s Spring/Summer 2027 show, the British style icon talks ’90s campaigns, dressing for the future, and what keeps fashion exciting.

Few people have shaped modern personal style quite like Alexa Chung. The British model, television presenter, and author rose to prominence in the 2000s, quickly becoming a fashion fixture known for mixing prim tailoring, vintage finds, and playful accessories. Since then, she has appeared in campaigns for major fashion houses and remained a mainstay on front rows around the world.
Ahead of the Calvin Klein Spring/Summer 2027 show, Chung spoke with L’OFFICIEL about the ’90s campaign she still returns to, the thinking behind her futuristic front-row look, and what continues to excite her about fashion week after years of attending shows.

L’OFFICIEL: Is there a Calvin Klein era or campaign that you always find yourself coming back to?
ALEXA CHUNG: The ’90s CK One campaign with Kate Moss and an entire cast of models all looking half-dressed and amazing, shot by Steven Meisel, is my absolute fave. They’re all brimming with individuality but dressed quite minimally. Obviously, it’s shot in black and white, and it just looked so fresh and cool that it has endured and still seems new today.
L’O: What’s your fashion philosophy these days—has it changed much over the years?
AC: I’m not sure I have one, other than that I pay attention to how I feel in clothes. If I don’t feel more like myself in something that day, I take it off. I’m constantly trying to express outwardly what I feel inwardly through clothes. Except when you have a new item, in which case I just wear it daily and build outfits around it, hahaha.

L’O: Every icon has a signature. What’s yours—the non-negotiable detail, habit, or mindset that always feels unmistakably you?
AC: Mmmmm, probably wrong-shoe theory or something. Or, yeah, one thing has to be off or mismatched, like a fly in the ointment.

L’O: How did you decide on your look for the show?
AC: I just really liked the sort of Orwellian, futuristic line of this dress with the boots. It felt like a uniform from the future.
L’O: Were there any styles or pieces that you knew you really wanted to wear?
AC: I definitely loved the cream trench, too. All the oversized trenches in the show were mega. I loved the styling of them with pale blue denim and blazers underneath—like a tiramisu of outerwear, multilayered.

L’O: If we opened your closet right now, what would we find way too many of?
AC: Moths.
L’O: You’ve been on countless fashion-week front rows—what still excites you about going to a show?
AC: Discovering newness and taking the temperature of current vibes—how people are thinking and feeling, and how that comes out in what they want to wear next season.
