Designer Carly Cushnie has made a stunning solo comeback to the runway in her hometown of New York City. Repositioning the previous ‘Cushnie et Ochs’ into a new brand entitled ‘Cushnie,’ this Spring 2019 collection is full of bright colors and daring cuts—a welcome breath of fresh, salty, tropical air. To commemorate the brand’s first season sans Ochs, Cushnie has taken this opportunity to fully implement her own creative vision: “I’m really happy that my first collection was resort wear and that I had the opportunity to do a runway,” said Cushnie. “This is my first ever runway and I feel as though this is the beginning of a new chapter. I’m transitioning the brand into how I want it to develop. I want to focus on it and turning it into something that’s mine.” As such, the Spring 2019 collection drew heavily from Cushnie’s roots. "I was inspired by my Jamaican heritage and I really wanted to embody this idea of tropical ease: really, really bright colors, soft silhouettes, and just…feeling good.”
