If New York Fashion Week is not for the most lavish collections designers can bring to fruition, then what’s the point? For menswear brand Linder’s Fall 2019 campaign, co-creative director Kirk Millar looked back about 100 years and channeled some serious aristocratic Anastasia vibes.

Millar presented us with an imperial collection, inspired by the infamous Romanov family, made up of silk scarves, fur trim and not-your-average royal jewels.

“I incorporated the Romanov family jewels in the spandex,” Millar said. “I took traditional scarves and put Romanov portraits on them, and kind of told the story through them. So there's a lot of elements that kind of play off of the whole narrative.”

While the pieces evoke a sense of stateliness, they are from stuffy—all very wearable but with a luxurious feel. White linen shorts are perfect for an afternoon game of tennis, while button-up jackets in bright orange or a velvety black can be worn with the sleeves rolled up to reveal jewel-printed spandex sleeves.

The menswear looks were not only designed by Millar, but photographed by him as well. He chose scenes of an extravagant manor to serve as the backdrop for the lookbook. He credits his influence for the collection to the interest he took in the Russian royal family at an early age.

“I think it's very interesting to see how there's parallels with what we're going through now,” Millar said.

As for his involvement in NYFW, Millar remains in awe at the amount of creative energy that New York City brings with it.

“I think there's a buzz here of people's ambition and excitement for life,” he said. “I always love doing something that feels very different for New York and giving it that twist that feels like it's still New York—there's still an attitude, there's still an edge in some way.”

What’s the attitude Millar hopes those who don these Linder pieces feel? Pure royalty.
