The entire cast and crew of Marvel Studios' latest superhero epic did not disappoint when it came to following the dress code for the film's premiere in Los Angeles. Huffington Post reported that "Royal attire" was requested of the premiere's attendees, and that's exactly what we got.
"I was hoping for this," the film's costume designer Ruth E. Carter expressed on the purple carpet. “How best to get the party started than to, on premiere night, have the cast, have the crew, have the directors and everybody participate in this explosion of patterns and African prints? Everyone can join in the fun!“
Stars like Angela Basset, Lupita Nyong'o, and Issa Rae stunned in gorgeous, brightly-colored gowns embellished with jewels, tassels, and holographic silks, while Chadwick Boseman, Daniel Kaluuya, and Donald Glover each wore remixed versions of a classic suit. The evening was a true celebration of color — in all aspects.
While the once-glamourous fanfare surrounding blockbuster movie premieres seems to have dwindled in recent years, the premiere of Black Panther indicates that a red carpet renaissance is upon us. Make that a purple carpet.
