Tank tops, sandals, and cardigans are just a few of the pieces defining this trend.&nbsp;

Throughout Copenhagen Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2026, pieces like oversized jorts, enticing polka dots, and daring color blocking were common sights to behold on the street, but those weren't the only looks that made their way from the runway to social media homepages. If you guessed intricately layered styles, you'd be correct.
In the midst of summer heat, endless humidity, and warm breezes, layering may seem ill-advised, but if you don't get it yet, allow us to shed some light on the trend. Just like with fall and winter looks, summer layering adds more dimensions to an ensemble, incorporates different looks, and makes you stand out in the crowd.
To be clear, this latest array of looks doesn't propose a light jacket or a scarf. Instead, the style has come about through T-shirts, tunics, and even tank tops. But the layered trend hasn't existed for just a few months; it's been on the scene for longer than you'd expect.

As Simon Porte Jacquemus was gearing up to present his Spring/Summer 2024 collection during Paris Fashion Week, he wanted to explore the asymmetrical and dimensional on the runway. Titled "Les Sculptures," the show was teased on Instagram with an interesting yet divisive offering: a double sandal.
The butter yellow and snakeskin print piece of footwear had many confused, yet attracted to the offering. When it walked down the Fondation Maeght, the Les Doubles Sandales became one of the primary layered accessories of recent times, and before long, fashion was seeing double.
From Matthieu Blazy's final Bottega Veneta show that presented plastic bags over handbags for Spring/Summer 2025 to Miu Miu's Spring/Summer 2026 show that had different garments layered over each other to hone in on the work of women under Miuccia Prada, the art of grabbing different pieces, pairing them together with one another, and embodying a distinct confidence made the style stand out.

As the summer began to shift into fall in 2025, people weren't done with the layering trend. Naturally, the cold season came about, and layering took on its popular form through puffer coats, luxurious vintage furs, and the classic wool trench coat. But the style would come in full force this year.
The influx of layered belts from Celine, the tasteful sheer tank tops over white dresses at Prada, and 7 For All Mankind's audacity to play around with different textiles made layering go from one to multiple coatings. Labels like Zimmerman, Loewe, and Diesel only contributed to the style, which transformed bold combinations on the runway into street style moments anyone could rock with pieces from their closet.
With the end of summer fast approaching, double layering can be the way to go for slowly dressing up for the fall. Whether it be a white buttoned-up shirt with a sequined tank over it, layered handbags and belts, or even pairing a silk skirt over some blue jeans, this look is sure to prompt a double take.&nbsp;
