Rooted in her Dominican heritage and built through years of experience at some of New York’s leading labels, Dwarmis creates clothes made to move through every part of a woman’s day.

Designing clothes has been a throughline in Dwarmis Concepción’s life since she was five years old. Growing up in the Dominican Republic, she filled sketchbooks with dolls dressed in outfits inspired by her mother. “She would wear skirts and dresses and boots, which you don’t see that much in DR, so it was kind of cool to see my mom standing out,” she says from her Chinatown apartment.
Concepción studied sewing and patternmaking at Altos de Chavón before moving to New York City—where she celebrated her 16th anniversary this past June—to further hone her skills at Parsons. She later held roles spanning jewelry design and ready-to-wear at Tory Burch, Ulla Johnson, and Rachel Comey, a roster of largely female-founded brands that continue to influence her today.
“I always say that my clothes are for the everyday woman,” says Concepción, whose Dwarmis label made its anticipated New York Fashion Week debut last September. “These are clothes that you can dress up and dress down and feel incredible in throughout the whole day—you can go to a meeting, pick up your kids, go to the park, and then maybe even go to the club in the same outfit.”
That kind of multifaceted woman is not only who Concepción designs for; it’s also who she has always been.

While working for Burch, Johnson, and Comey, she was making her own clothes on the side, sharing the finished pieces on Instagram under the hashtag #imadeit. “People always ask me how I have the time [to do everything] and I think it’s because I don’t watch TV,” she laughs. “I get home and I’m still working; people think it’s ridiculous, but it’s true. I have always done that and I don’t know why, but I love to make stuff.”
That same sense of purpose extends to the community she’s building around Dwarmis. She naturally gravitated toward working with a Latin manufacturer, Latin models, and a Latin photographer. “It all just comes together, which is beautiful,” she says. “We all understand each other, the language, the spirit, it’s just more fun. We even dance while we’re working, and it’s not weird.”
Dance and movement are on the Dwarmis mood board for Spring/Summer 2027. Concepción, who loves salsa, merengue, and reggaeton, felt this was the right moment not only to grow the brand—she’s expanding her local production model overseas to experiment with different techniques—but to also show how the clothes move in real life, an idea that feels quite personal. “I live and breathe the design, and I wear the collection,” she says. “If I don’t want to wear it, who is going to want to wear it? That is just how I see it.”
