The British Fashion Council continues to announce the winners of its 2018 Fashion Awards with Swarovski. Following the announcement of Stella McCartney taking home a new Innovation award, the BFC has announced newly-minted Dior designer Maria Grazia Chiuri will take home the Positive Change Award, which was presented for the first time, last year, to the late Italian Vogue editor Franca Sozzani. Chiuri plans to honor Sozzani while accepting the award.

“The feminist movement that I felt so close to for a long time is finally resonating in society, and this recognition sends a powerful message to all women battling on a daily basis” said Chiuri who has dedicated her first collections for Dior to feminism. Beyond her standout designs, the T-shirts printed with simple strong messages like “We Should All Be Feminists” and “Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?” have been her buzziest works. Both shirts were inspired the writings of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Linda Nochlin, respectively.

We should all be feminists
Why have there been no great women artists?

On the occasion, BFC chairman Natalie Massanet says, "Maria Grazia will be recognized for her successful creative achievements, her contribution to the empowerment of women in fashion and the determination to encourage women of future generations to believe in themselves. The positive impact that she has had on fashion and society in general makes it a great inspiration for all of us."
