Riding the trend of nostalgia this season, designer Chris Leba tapped into his own childhood for R13’s latest collection. Referencing the 1980’s when his mother moved from New York City to Montauk, his childhood became entwined with the hotel business they ran.
“Well, my hometown is Montauk—which is by the ocean —so, for years I'd go to all the surf shops around. So this season, I felt like I was really inspired by that whole 'surf culture,'” Leba tells Abraham Martinez of L’Officiel USA. This affinity for surf culture and the beach life is evident in the collection, as buyers and the press were treated to a plethora of tie-dyed fabrics, oversized denim, sequined shorts, and plenty of dusty tones.
