When French jewelry designer Jean Schlumberger first designed the Bird on a Rock motif, the 1965 diamond-encrusted avian was the pinnacle of whimsy. Now, 61 years later, it's still at its peak in this current age.
On Sept. 1, Tiffany &amp; Co. announced the launch of a stunning lineup that honors the iconic symbol. Through two distinct collections, wings and feathers come together to clarify the basis of flight, which is crucial to both birds and the Bird on a Rock's legacy that has existed for more than half a century.
With Nathalie Verdeille, Senior Vice President—Chief Artistic Officer, Jewelry and High Jewelry, at the helm of the design process, the storied emblem is finally getting its well-deserved revamp. For the offerings, fine and high jewelry take charge of the new pieces that further one of the brand's most famous creations.

After Schlumberger took a trip across Asia and the Caribbean, he encountered a yellow cockatoo. This rare bird not only inspired him to create a playful design but also brought a new element to Tiffany &amp; Co. One of the first brooches flaunted a yellow and white diamond bird on top of a cabochon lapis lazuli, which became a classic associated with the designer. The creation was viewed as a symbol of optimism, hope, and happiness before becoming integral to the house's legacy as a renowned force to be reckoned with.
From different colorways to serving as the setting for the signautre TIffany Diamond in 1995, the look became a classic during the 20th century. Verdeille is no stranger to honoring important designs while adding a contemporary twist, and the Bird on the Rock motif is no exception. 18k yellow gold, chevron detailing, and diamonds of various sizes are featured across the latest creations.
In the fine jewelry category, a pendant, a pair of drop earrings, a narrow necklace and ring, an intricate bracelet, and three metal rings (18k yellow, rose gold, or platinum) take the wing design and integrate it into their distinct style. Driven by the symbolic power of flight, the Bird on a Rock by Tiffany Wings designs are the perfect touch to the special moments in life.

Shifting towards the high jewelry side, the Bird on a Rock Feather offerings are simply breathtaking. From multifaceted diamond feathers to sculptural layouts in platinum, 18k gold, and diamonds, modern nature-esque elements look dazzling alongside the abstract. Mesmerizing looks aside, the piece's construction and attention to detail are things worth noting.
For nearly three years, each piece elicits the feather's softness and strength into masterful engraving, smart contrasts, and legendary use of diamonds to solidify the high jewelry name. To accompany the new Feathers creations, Tiffany &amp; Co. will launch pieces that spotlight birds interacting with one another.
Merging the house's famous craftsmanship and Schlumberger's vision, the Bird on a Rock collections only reinforce the motif's boundless sense of imagination that has been crucial to Tiffany &amp; Co.'s history. Starting Sept. 1, the new array of pieces will be available in select Tiffany &amp; Co. stores.&nbsp;
