The actress opens up about bringing the complex Oreana to life in Dutton Ranch, joining one of television's biggest franchises, and why stepping behind the camera for her upcoming horror-comedy Halloween Store has changed the way she approaches storytelling.

Natalie Alyn Lind has spent much of her career growing up in front of the camera, but her latest chapter feels like a turning point. As Oreana in Dutton Ranch, she enters one of television's most devoted universes with a character that's equal parts fearless, vulnerable, and impossible to ignore—earning passionate reactions from audiences with every episode.Away from the ranch, 26-year-old Lind is charting an ambitious path of her own. The actress is not only starring in the upcoming horror-comedy Halloween Store, but also producing the film, marking a new creative milestone behind the scenes. Speaking with L'OFFICIEL, Lind reflects on joining the Yellowstone universe, embracing morally complicated characters, learning from Hollywood legends on set, and why producing has become her next great passion.

L'OFFICIEL: Dutton Ranch has already developed such a passionate fanbase. What initially drew you to the role of Oreana, and what was your first reaction when you read the scripts?NATALIE ALYN LIND: What drew me to Oreana was how alive she felt on the page. She isn’t polished or predictable. She leads with her heart, makes impulsive decisions, and isn’t afraid to take up space. The second I read the scripts, I felt like I knew her. I also loved that the world of Dutton Ranch felt familiar to fans of the Yellowstone universe while still bringing something completely fresh and unexpected to the table. As a fan of Yellowstone having to wait weeks in between receiving the next script was torturous. Now im just anxiously awaiting for what will (hopefully) happen season 2.&nbsp;&nbsp;L'O: Oreana is a character audiences are still getting to know. How would you describe her in your own words, and what do you think people misunderstand about her at first?NAL: I’d describe Oreana as fiercely independent, passionate, and reckless. She says what she’s thinking and follows her instincts, even when they get her into trouble. I think at first people might mistake her confidence for carelessness, but underneath all of that she’s incredibly vulnerable. She feels everything deeply and acts from a very real place emotionally. Something fans may or may not pick up on is the age difference between Oreana and Carter (Carter is 19, Oreana is 24). Oreana had to grow up very quickly, in a lot of ways her childhood was taken from her. Because of that, she’s spent most of her life carrying responsibilities and emotional burdens that forced her to mature before she was ready. Being around Carter brings out a side of her that she hasn’t had the chance to experience in a long time. There’s a youthful, whimsical quality that comes alive when she’s with him… almost like she’s getting a glimpse of the carefree years she never really got to have. I think that’s part of what draws her to him and makes their connection so meaningful.L'O: What has been the most rewarding part of bringing Oreana to life so far?&nbsp;NAL: The most rewarding part has been finding all the layers beneath her tough exterior. She’s someone who can walk into a room and command attention, but she’s also carrying a lot of hurt and uncertainty. Exploring those contradictions has been really fun as an actor. I love characters who don’t fit neatly into one box.For me, I also love playing characters that people either absolutely love or absolutely hate. Those are usually the characters that spark the most conversation and leave the biggest impression. Seeing the fan reactions to Oreana has been so much fun because everyone has a different opinion about her. Some people completely understand her, some people are frustrated by her choices, and honestly that’s exactly what makes a character interesting to me. If people are feeling something strongly, then I’ve done my job.&nbsp;

L'O: What has it been like joining a franchise with such an established legacy and devoted audience?NAL: It’s definitely exciting and a little intimidating because the fanbase is so passionate. But what I’ve loved is how much everyone involved cares about honoring what people love about this universe while also expanding it. From day one, it felt like we were building something that respected the legacy while still taking risks and telling new stories.L'O: Have there been any cast members you’ve especially enjoyed working alongside or learned from during production?&nbsp;NAL: Honestly, I’ve learned something from everyone. We were lucky to have a cast that was incredibly generous and supportive. Some of my favorite moments happened between takes when we’d swap stories, laugh, and just enjoy being together. This set really felt like a family. It created an environment where everyone felt comfortable taking creative risks, and that’s the kind of set every actor hopes to be part of.I’ve also been incredibly lucky to work alongside people whose careers I’ve admired for years. I’m a HUGE fan of Annette Bening and Ed Harris, so getting the chance to watch them work up close has been pretty surreal. They both bring so much depth, experience, and commitment to every scene, and there’s a lot you can learn just by observing them. And as someone who was already a big Yellowstone fan, getting to watch Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser continue to craft their iconic characters behind the scenes has been so cool. Seeing the amount of care and thought they put into every detail really gives you an appreciation for why those characters have resonated with audiences for so long.L'O: Switching gears, you’re also producing and starring in the upcoming horror-comedy Halloween Store. What initially attracted you to a project like this?NAL: I’ve always loved horror, but what hooked me about Halloween Store was the fact that it doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s scary, funny, nostalgic, and completely embraces the chaos of Halloween. It reminded me of the movies I grew up loving… the kind you watch with friends and end up quoting afterward. I call this movie my love letter to horror and to anyone who’s ever spent way too much time wandering around a Halloween store.&nbsp;

L'O: You’re wearing two hats on this project as both producer and actor. What have you learned from stepping behind the camera in a producing role?NAL:&nbsp;I’ve gained such a deeper appreciation for how many people it takes to make a movie happen. As an actor, you’re focused on your performance and your character’s journey. As a producer, you’re thinking about the bigger picture every second. I’ve learned how important communication, flexibility, and problem solving are. It’s made me a much more collaborative actor because I understand the challenges every department is facing. I’ve always loved developing characters, so being able to really craft every character from the ground up was extremely satisfying and rewarding.&nbsp;L'O: Horror is having a major moment right now. Were there any films, franchises, or performances that inspired Halloween Store?NAL: There were definitely a lot of influences. I grew up loving everything from classic slashers to horror-comedies, and I think you can feel that throughout the movie. Some of the biggest inspirations were films like Halloween (1978), Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scary Movie and Child’s Play. Those movies have such iconic characters and are so much fun to revisit year after year. What I love about them is that they don’t just deliver scares, they create an experience. They’re suspenseful, entertaining, and full of memorable moments that stick with you long after the credits roll. Films that balance horror with humor have always been some of my favorites because they take audiences on such a fun ride. We wanted Halloween Store to capture that same spirit and feel like the kind of movie you’d throw on every October with your friends and make part of your Halloween tradition.&nbsp;L'O: Looking ahead, between Dutton Ranch, Halloween Store, and everything else on the horizon, what are you most excited for audiences to see from you next?NAL:&nbsp;Honestly, I’m excited for all of it. I’m incredibly proud of Dutton Ranch and Halloween Store, but one thing I’ve discovered through Halloween Store is that I’ve definitely caught the producing bug. Being involved in bringing a project to life from the ground up has been such a rewarding experience, and I’m already in the process of looking for my next project to develop and produce. At the same time, I’m sitting anxiously awaiting a Season 2 pickup for Dutton Ranch because I’d love the opportunity to continue Oreana’s journey. There’s still so much more of her story I want to explore. Right now, I feel really energized creatively, and I’m excited for audiences to see not only the characters I play, but also the stories I’m helping bring to life behind the scenes.
