HBO's smash-hit show is saying goodbye to one of its fan-favorite characters, Dr. Samira Mohan&mdash;here's why.&nbsp;

As <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/the-pitt-season-2-episode-14-recap-summary-everything-you-missed-plot-storyline-cast-characters" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Pitt season 2 finale</a> inches closer and closer, fans online aren't just anticipating a drama-packed last episode&mdash;they're also taking in each and every final moment with one of the show's most beloved characters, Dr. Mohan.&nbsp;
On April 2, reports emerged that Supriya Ganesh, who plays Mohan, would <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/the-pitt-season-3-cast-changes-supriya-ganesh-ayesha-harris-plot-release-date-drama-controversy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">not return for&nbsp;season 3 of </a><a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/the-pitt-season-3-cast-changes-supriya-ganesh-ayesha-harris-plot-release-date-drama-controversy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Pitt</a>.&nbsp;Ganesh's exit is reportedly a "story-driven decision," as her character enters a period of change in her career.&nbsp;
Now, nearly two weeks after the news broke, the show's creative leadership is speaking up, maintaining that the actor's departure is indeed a result of the show's narrative direction.&nbsp;&nbsp;
&ldquo;It&rsquo;s an inevitability that&rsquo;s going to happen every season with this show because as writers we&rsquo;re hard pressed to figure out what a lapse of time we can have and keep most of the ensemble together realistically,&rdquo; <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop-culture/young-photos-of-noah-wyle-er-the-pitt-wife-kids-age" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Noah Wyle</a>&mdash;actor, writer, and producer on The Pitt&mdash;told <a href="https://variety.com/2026/tv/columns/the-pitt-noah-wyle-explans-supriya-ganesh-leaving-exit-after-season-2-1236719896/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Variety</a> at PaleyFest in Los Angeles on April 12.&nbsp;
At PaleyFest, Wyle and R. Scott Gemmell, who created The Pitt, debriefed the show's monumental second season&mdash;plus what The Pitt has coming down the pipeline. Wyle was joined by fellow cast members Katherine LaNasa and Taylor Dearden, who play Dana Evans and Dr. Mel King, respectively. Ganesh, Isa Briones, Shawn Hatosy, and Sepideh Moafi were also expected to join, but recently announced they had alternate commitments and would not be able to attend.&nbsp;

R. Scott Gemmell, the show's creator, echoed Wyle's point, explaining that turnover is inherent to working in the emergency department.&nbsp;
&ldquo;It&rsquo;s sort of the nature of the show. Unfortunately, the way the medical profession works, you come in, you learn, you move on, and we want to try and be as truthful to that process as possible. So we&rsquo;re going to turn over our cast. But I think it&rsquo;s a great launching pad for people and that&rsquo;s the best we can do," he told Variety.
Beyond reports that Ayesha Harris, who plays Dr. Ellis on the night shift, will become a series regular, no additional casting changes have been announced for The Pitt season 3 just yet. After a long season full of intense, emotional moments of character development, fans are eager to see what other doctors, nurses, and staff the show will turn its focus to next.&nbsp;
"We were obviously very sorry to let Dr. Mohan go, but we have other characters that we're going to be focusing on in the future," Wyle told <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/tv/2026/04/13/noah-wyle-supriya-ganesh-dr-mohan-the-pitt/89572700007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">USA Today</a> at PaleyFest. "Supriya has been a huge part of our show. She's an amazing actress. We've loved every second we've worked together. We're going to miss her."
