Move over oversized and relaxed-fit, this style is taking over menswear as we know it.

After what seemed like a never-ending train of baggy silhouettes taking over men's fashion, a new challenger has entered the arena: Cropped styles. In recent months, this look has been steadily rising, on and off the runway. And as we look ahead to the seasons ahead, the style continues to reign supreme in the menswear sphere.
Ever since collections from Jonathan Anderson's Dior, Demna's Gucci, and Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons' Prada debuted last season, the obsession with highlighting the body's frame was met with generally great reviews. Now, for Spring/Summer 2027 menswear collections in Milan and Paris, cropped silhouettes have become the defining style of the season.
Across different collections, the fit holds distinct proportions that ultimately consist of a second-skin cropped top and bottoms that fall between the waist or barely above. The lean-forward style not only highlights certain parts of the body but also brings a dramatic flair that has brought a spark to the world of menswear.&nbsp;

As Anderson continued to please the fashion industry with collections for Dior, the anticipation for his second menswear collection was at an all-time high. Shrunken Bar jackets, disco-ready tops, and a variety of mystical polos were paired with monochromatic pants, establishing what we have seen recently on the catwalk. Notably, some models flaunted their waists with the help of slim-fitting tops and slacks perfectly placed at the midriff.
When Demna was appointed as Gucci's artistic director back in March 2025, the fashion scene wasn't quite sure what to expect from one of the industry's foremost visionaries. For his first runway collection, he unveiled a co-ed collection for the Fall/Winter 2026 season. Men's looks saw body-hugging tops paired with the iconic "GG" Marmont belt and pants at the waist, elongating the body, while alternatives like sagged trousers and classic T-shirts offered a different version of a cropped style.

For those who hoped the style wouldn't make its grand return to fashion week, gird your loins because many brands are establishing the silhouette as a new menswear classic.
For Prada's Men's Spring/Summer 2027 collection, the ethos of conscious decision-making was present throughout every look. Notably, the first look, comprised of a matching trim white denim set, a black blazer, and a pair of black leather shoes with three straps, worn by Julia Nobis, established the notion that cropped silhouettes are here to stay. Sweater vests with scrunched bottoms, multiple belts, and colorful scarves paired well with cropped leather ensembles, narrow pants, and see-through garments.
While the season has plenty left in store, don't be surprised if the style continues to pop up on your feed. Brands like Paul Smith have already incorporated the design into their latest offerings for the season. Is this a commentary on society's fixation on trimming down to fit a standard? Or, something that brings a spark to the industry as we know it?
Whatever the case may be, cropped silhouettes offer an alternative to the years-long oversized trend. So, the question stands: Will you be embracing the midriff this season or stick with roomy pieces that go against the less-is-more wave?
