While the number&rsquo;s certainly not nothing, it pales in comparison to some of her <a href="https://preview.lofficielusa.com/music/23-artists-music-industry-new-years-resolutions-2018" target="_blank" rel="noopener">industry</a> predecessors.
But what exactly does it mean to sell one's catalog or <a href="https://preview.lofficielusa.com/pop-culture/all-the-celebrities-showing-support-for-taylor-swift-buying-masters-back" target="_blank" rel="noopener">masters</a>? Frankly, it signifies that you are transferring the official rights of your ownership&mdash;including, but not limited to, publishing and/or mastering recording rights&mdash;to a label or otherwise third party. Artists waive the rights to future royalties, streaming income, licensing fees, sales, etc., in exchange for immediate financial liquidity.

You know her, you love her, and be honest: when have you ever been able to get enough of her? Taylor Swift, multi-hyphenate musical genius,&nbsp;did&nbsp;not sell her catalog herself; she acquired ownership of her master recordings for her first six albums from Shamrock Capital in 2025. However, Scooter Braun had originally bought them in 2019 from Ithaca Holdings. While Swift was trying to first regain the rights, music mogul, Ryan Adams, recorded cover albums while hers were temporarily unavailable, and made a fortune while taking advantage of the legal battle.&nbsp;
With this in mind, Swift re-recorded her early albums to ultimately gain control of the catalog. As for accolades, Swift has been adorned with 12 original studio albums, 14 Grammys, 40 American Music Awards, 40 Billboard Music Awards, and 30 MTV Video Music Awards, and has headlined six major tours from Fearless to her most recent,&nbsp;Eras. Swift is the American singer-songwriter of our generation who continues to make herstory, be it shifting from country-pop to indie-folk to synth-pop; the artist&rsquo;s genre-fluidity knows no bounds. But hey, that's just The Life of a Showgirl.

In 2024, Pophouse Entertainment bought KISS&rsquo; catalog for over $300 million. The hard-rock-meets-heavy-metal group pioneered glam rock as a whole, expressing their vision through theatrical, makeup-heavy live performances in the 1970s. Best known for hits like "I Was Made for Lovin&rsquo; You," "Rock and Roll All Nite," and "Heaven&rsquo;s On Fire," the band's legacy reigns just as strong today as it did decades ago.

That said, Turner&rsquo;s rights were sold to BMG Rights Management for $300 million in 2021. You may know Turner for jams like "What&rsquo;s Love Got to Do with It," "Proud Mary," and "The Best," but in addition, her raspy yet eclectic tone was nothing short of showstopping. That, as well as Turner's electric stage presence that supported nine studio albums and three live albums.

Sting, the solo musician (as well as member of The Police) sold his music catalog for $300 million to Universal Music Group in 2022. While Sting's musical style varies, he has incorporated jazz, New Age, reggae, and classical influences, earning 16 Grammys. As for our personal favorite? "Every Breath You Take" simply couldn&rsquo;t be more beautiful.

Phil Collins joined Genesis in 1970, after responding to a Melody Maker advertisement seeking a drummer following the departure of Peter Gabriel. As they progressed, Collins became lead vocalist in 1975. Cut to 2022, and Concord Music Group bought the records for $300 million. Furthermore, their genre ranged from progressive rock to quicker pop-rock, with songs like "Invisible Touch," "Abacab," and "Mama."

Pink Floyd&rsquo;s psychedelic-rock aura only flourished in the 1970s and 1980s, and was later bought by Sony Music for $400 million in 2024. Favorites from the male moguls included&nbsp;Shine On You Crazy Diamond&nbsp;and Echoes, known for being progressive within the auto-pioneering space and reinventing taste with albums like The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. *Fun Fact: Pink Floyd used colored condoms over lights at their shows to emulate a hallucinatory effect for their crowds.

Dylan himself has defied the principles of power since the 1960s with hits like "Knockin' On Heaven&rsquo;s Door," "Blood on the Tracks," "Don&rsquo;t Think Twice, It&rsquo;s All Right." And yes, Dylan released over 50 albums, won 10 Grammys, an Oscar, a Pulitzer Prize, and the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature&mdash;his accomplishments to modern music and beyond speak for themself, much like his abilities on the harmonica, general accomplishment of revolutionizing folk music alongside his switch to the electric guitar in 1965.

Additionally, Springsteen is regarded as one of the best live performers in American musical history. All things considered, he is a legend in the truest sense.&nbsp;

With 10 solo studio albums under his belt, the singer&mdash;who began his career with the Jackson 5 at age five&mdash;made his mark in the industry with beats like "Thriller," "Billie Jean," and "Rock with You," alongside winning 13 Grammy Awards (eight in one night, in 1984). Today,&nbsp;Thriller&nbsp;is still the best-selling album of all time. Moreover, Jackson was famous for his philanthropic efforts, donating over half a billion dollars of his fortune to charity. Queen, with too many classics to count (e.g., "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Another One Bites The Dust," and "We Are The Champions"), donned flamboyant costumes at huge stage shows in the 1970s while singing like there was no tomorrow. All four members of the band&mdash;Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Decon&mdash;wrote for Queen, each contributing to at least one chart-topping hit.
