Five-time Grammy nominee SZA made her Saturday Night Live debut as the musical guest for host (and longtime crush) James Franco this weekend. The Best New Artist Grammy nominee performed “The Weekend” and “Love Galore,” two songs off her recently released acclaimed album Ctrl.
The 28-year-old singer’s gospel accompaniment ditched the white robes donned for “The Weekend” in favor of an all black ensemble for a special rendition of “Love Galore,” for which the singer replaced Travis Scott’s feature with an alternate, unreleased verse to the hit song. Both “Love Galore” and “The Weekend” are up for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best R&B Performance, respectively, at the 2018 Grammys.
It’s been a long journey, SZA revealed in a heartfelt statement on Instagram, but with five Grammy nominations, a striking SNL performance, and a 40-show tour under her belt, SZA is a certified music mainstay.
