Meet the Northern Irish actor and model who has become one of the most recognizable faces of the 21st century.

Jamie Dornan is continuing a legendary run this year. From Apple TV's 12 12 12 to The Undertow on Netflix, the Northern Irish actor is adding to his two decades of acting feats. Not to mention, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum will surely add to the intense flame.
Born in Holywood and raised in the Belfast suburbs, Dornan grew up with two older sisters, an obstetrician and gynecologist father, and a mother who died of pancreatic cancer when he was 16. His father considered acting, but didn't have the opportunity to do so. At Methodist College Belfast, Dornan played rugby and was involved in the drama department, balancing the arts and sports worlds.
Once he finished high school, he attended Teesside University for a while before dropping out and packing his bags to London in 2002. While in the city, he trained as an actor, didn't apply to drama school, and worked at a Knightsbridge pub for six months before his modeling career took off.
Since making his acting debut in Sofia Coppola's 2006 film Marie Antoinette as Count Axel Fersen, Dornan has made himself known through various roles on the silver screen. Once Upon a Time, The Fall, and the Fifty Shades trilogy launched him into stardom, with the industry bestowing nominations and accolades for his work.
Needless to say, there's a lot to know about the 44-year-old creative. So, join L'OFFICIEL as we take a look at the standout facts about Dornan.

If you know anything about the Golden Age of Hollywood, there's no doubt that Greer Garson was a leading lady of that era. The British actress and singer starred in films like Pride and Prejudice, Mrs. Miniver, and Random Harvest. Dornan is a first cousin, twice removed, of Garson's, which solidifies the fact that he was born to take on many roles and storylines, just like his relative.

Once he dropped out of Teesside, the actor was featured on Channel 4's reality show Model Behaviour. Even though Dornan wasn't savvy about a career in modeling, his sisters encouraged him to try it out. Despite being eliminated from the show, he signed a contract with Select Model Management and worked with brands like Armani, Calvin Klein, Levi's Jeans, and Loewe through campaigns, commercials, and ambassadorships.

Before taking a shot at modeling or acting, Dornan was the frontman of the folk band Sons of Jim. Launched alongside schoolmate David Alexander, the duo also founded their own record label, Doorstep Records. Tracks like "My Burning Sun" and "Fairytale" were housed under the company and were performed on stage while supporting Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall on tour. Sons of Jim disbanded in 2008, but Dornan has sung in films like Belfast and Fifty Shades Freed since then.

He Was Initally Interested In Comedy

While having any opportunities in the industry was great, Dornan always had a desire to tap into the comedy world. At one point in time, he had many meetings with Funny or Die, wrote a blog for them, and thought that was where his career was headed. Even though the blog posts didn't get published, Dornan eventually had the chance to showcase his funny side in Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, Saturday Night Live UK, and The Graham Norton Show.

He Founded A Menswear Clothing Brand

With many campaigns, characters, and red carpet moments, one would hope that even a drop of refined style would become available to all. Thankfully, Dornan did just that with Eleven Eleven, a men's fashion and lifestyle brand that launched in April 2022. The brand focuses on everyday pieces like shirts and chinos that can be dressed up or down. Released in limited quantities, a single accredited factory uses all of the yarn to reduce waste, and trees are planted in order to offset emissions.
