His statement comes after a video of the couple fighting in an elevator was released earlier this week.

On Tuesday, <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2021/03/30/quavo-saweetie-physical-altercation-elevator-video/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TMZ</a> released a video from 2020 of <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/music/saweetie-interview-new-ep-pretty-bitch" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Saweetie</a> and Quavo having a <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop-culture/quavo-saweetie-elevator-fight-months-before-split" target="_blank" rel="noopener">physical altercation</a> in the elevator of her apartment building in Los Angeles. While is unclear from the video how the fight started, many fans on social media questioned the health of their former relationship and whether or not there was a deeper issue of abuse. Late Thursday night, Quavo released a statement to <a href="https://people.com/music/quavo-says-he-never-physically-abused-saweetie-after-video-of-elevator-fight-leaks/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">People</a> denying any physical abuse. The Migos rapper said, "We had an unfortunate situation almost a year ago that we both learned and moved on from. I haven't physically abused Saweetie and have real gratitude for what we did share overall."
In a separate statement, Saweetie also spoke to <a href="https://people.com/music/saweetie-addresses-elevator-fight-with-quavo/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">People</a> about the video. The "Tap In" rapper explained, "<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit; font-weight: inherit; letter-spacing: 0px;">This unfortunate incident happened a year ago, while we have reconciled since then and moved past this particular disagreement, there were simply too many other hurdles to overcome in our relationship and we have both since moved on. I kindly ask that everyone respect my privacy during this time."

The pair had been romantically connected since 2018. Following their breakup early last month, both of the exes made accusations about the other as the reason for their split. The Pretty Bitch artist <a href="https://twitter.com/Saweetie/status/1372987323210551297" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tweeted</a>, "I&rsquo;m single. I&rsquo;ve endured too much betrayal and hurt behind the scenes for a false narrative to be circulating that degrades my character. Presents don&rsquo;t band aid scars and the love isn&rsquo;t real when the intimacy is given to other women."
In response, fans immediately accused Quavo of being unfaithful which has also denied. &ldquo;I know you want to make this into a show so I&rsquo;ll play my part just this one time,&rdquo; he&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/QuavoStuntin/status/1373027055537856516" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tweeted</a> in response to Saweetie's insinuation. &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t normally put my business out there, especially my personal life. I feel the need to address this so there are no false narratives.&rdquo;
He also <a href="https://people.com/music/quavo-addresses-split-from-saweetie/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">went on to say,</a>&nbsp;&ldquo;I had love for you and disappointed you did all that. You are not the woman I thought you were. I wish you nothing but the best.&rdquo;
