Dolly Parton was born the fourth of what would soon be 12 children in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee in 1946. She grew up in deep poverty surrounded by family and music, and this lifestyle made creation a central part of her childhood. Parton started writing music when she was five. By the age of seven, she had begun playing her first guitar, gifted to her by her uncle Bill Owens. By 10, she was performing on local Tennessee radio and television shows. Her humble beginnings influenced her music career and launched Parton into an industry that she would alter forever.&nbsp;
At the age of 13, Parton made her Grand Ole Opry debut. She took the Opry stage by storm, singing &ldquo;You Gotta Be My Baby&rdquo; by George Jones after being introduced by Johnny Cash. This performance solidified Parton&rsquo;s entrance into the world of country music. After graduating high school in 1964, Parton packed her bags and moved to Nashville, where she would begin acting and continue singing.&nbsp;
Parton launched her acting career on the television series The Porter Wagoner Show, a comedic show that highlighted Parton&rsquo;s angelic voice, shocking outfits, and hourglass figure. In 1971, Parton released her first solo #1 hit song, &ldquo;Joshua,&rdquo; which led to three more hit songs, including &ldquo;Jolene,&rdquo; &ldquo;Love Is Like a Butterfly,&rdquo; and &ldquo;I Will Always Love You,&rdquo; making the early to mid-1970s a creatively strong period of Parton&rsquo;s career. Parton was then voted the Country Music Association&rsquo;s Female Vocalist of the year in 1975 and 1976, eventually being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999. She crossed over from country to pop with the hit song &ldquo;Here You Come Again&rdquo; in 1977, even shifting back into the film industry by starring in movies like 9 to 5 and Steel Magnolias.&nbsp;
Parton&rsquo;s business career was most notably launched through her Dollywood theme park, which was created to honor her Appalachian roots and community with a fairy-like Smoky Mountain world. Each one of Parton&rsquo;s accomplishments is meant to honor her upbringing, where she came from nothing, but became everything she dreamt of.&nbsp;
