If you are someone who actually didn't receive AirPods (or their Pro counterparts) as a holiday gift, here's a solid way to one-up all of your friends. Following the rise of Apple's revolutionary (and meme-worthy) wireless headphones, Louis Vuitton made their own version last year, providing the perfect way to get in on the hottest listening trend while also displaying your ears' penchant for logomania. Now, the Louis Vuitton AirPods just got an update, so if you haven't gotten a pair yet, good news: you can be even cooler than all your friends who joined the club before 2020.
Vuitton's original Horizon earphones collection came in black, white, and red monograms, as well as yellow and blue LV stripes, providing both a heritage tribute and a more modern look. The new version has five new colorways: a revamp on the former three, along with neon yellow and millennial pink. The original charging case provided three 3.5-hour listening sessions on the go, but the revamp has a 30-hour battery life, officially beating that of AirPods and finally providing something (beyond the Louis Vuitton AirPods appeal) that maybe justifies the high price tag. The new Louis Vuitton Airpods, which originally sold for $995, are available for $1090 on the brand's website. Though the owners of $159 AirPods may have once felt part of Twitter's "wealthiest" circle (especially if they recently upgraded to $249 for AirPods Pro), they now have to settle for second.
This is just the latest in LV's forays into the luxury tech market, as the brand launched a smartwatch, the Tambour Horizon, in 2017. The earphones actually pair with the watch in addition to other Bluetooth devices, so you could totally leave your phone at home and enjoy an exclusively Vuitton music adventure. The brand also launched a Louis Vuitton mini backpack bracelet in late 2019, where you can probably fit your new earphones as it looks roomier than the Jacquemus Mini Chiquito bag.
Speaking of phones, could the luxury house one day decide they want to make that market more fashionable, too? Who knows, but for now, the new LV earbuds one of the hottest accessories on the street style circuit.
