Organizing your wardrobe can be a tantamount step in revamping your life in the new year, so consider this guide a gift in reinvigorating your style in 2026.

If one of your New Year's resolutions is to live a more organized life, getting your closet in order may be a great place to start. To many sartorial savants, an immaculately manicured wardrobe equals peace of mind&mdash;plus a solid organizational system makes heading out the door looking fabulous that much easier.
Below, L'OFFICIEL has gathered the best tips and tricks from fashion stylists and organizers on how to coordinate your entire closet.&nbsp;

Your Closet Size And Sustainability Goals Should Inform Your Organizational Style

"If you have enough space, hang all your shirts, blouses, jeans and dresses. Many people prefer to fold their T-shirts, but if you need to get dressed quickly, pulling a folded T-shirt out of a drawer will likely mean the shirt is wrinkly, and you'll have to steam it," says stylist to the stars Eliza Yerry, "So, put sweaters, activewear, loungewear, undergarments and pajamas in your drawers or dressers, because they don't wrinkle, or it doesn't matter if they are wrinkly." "If your closet is lacking shelving, dresser or drawer space, organizational items from The Container Store or Amazon (like baskets or shelf dividers) are really helpful to harmonize your closet," says Yerry.
"In the event that you are extremely tight on closet space, under-bed storage like shallow plastic bins can be a great," Yerry explains. "Storage under your bed can be interchangeable per season, like putting your swimwear and sandals under your bed in the winter, and jackets and boots under your bed during the summer."
Victoria Hathaway, another top fashion stylist, swears by using slim, identical clothing hangers, proper shoe storage and breathable garment bags for your more special pieces. "It makes a huge difference, not just aesthetically but in preserving the clothes themselves."
Hathaway believes you should treat your closet as an extension of your living space.
"Revisit it seasonally, rotate pieces in and out, and don&rsquo;t be afraid to let go of items that no longer reflect your lifestyle or how you want to show up," she adds.
If you're going for the gold star of closet organization, take a page out of professional closet organizer Jenna Haefelin's book: she never uses plastic items when reaching for closet organizational tools.
Instead, she recommends investing in slim wooden clothing hangers, non-slip velvet hangers, or iron hangers padded with cotton and linen. Look for drawer dividers made of hardwood and baskets made from rattan, brass or wood for an exquisite forever solution.

Yerry recommends organizing everything by clothing type, then by color.
"So skirts, tops, jeans are all grouped together, and then I organize them first by white, and then by ROYGBIV," she explains. Yerry says this helps you visualize your closet in a more aesthetically pleasing way.&nbsp;
Haefelin agrees. She favors organizing by category, and then by color, from light to dark. Further, Haefelin encourages a simple rule for leather goods: "Structured handbags [should be] displayed on shelves, and more casual bags [should be] placed into baskets for easy access."

Make Spring Cleaning A Regular Habit

When it comes to spring cleaning, Yerry says her system of three simple rules makes seasonal organizaion a breeze.
"First, if you haven't worn an item for a year, or four full seasons, think about donating or selling it, depending on price point. Second, if an item hasn't fit, been worn in the past year, or is damaged at all, I recommend getting rid of it. Finally, sometimes there are items in people's closets that don't even make sense... if you bought a clearance dress without an event to wear in the near future, donate it. Chances are, when you do have an event come up, you will want something new and bespoke regardless."
Hathaway opts for a similar arrangement. According to her, one should turn all hangers backwards at the start of a season. When a piece is worn, return the hanger to its proper direction. At the end of the season, any items left on backward hangers are prime candidates for donation or reselling.&nbsp;
