Last week, it came as a surprise to no one that Instagram's Year in Review data was basically a love letter to Selena Gomez, who was 2017's most-followed person, and had half ot the year's most-liked posts. Still, in a new interview with Billboard, the singer revealed that even she needs to take breaks from it — frequently.
In fact, Gomez says that she regularly deletes the app from her phone altogether, much to the dismay of Instagram's creator, Kevin Systrom, citing mental health as a reason. "Removing myself was about spending time with things that matter. I’ve been hanging out with an old friend, and basically every conversation, we want it to be intentional. Meaningful conversations remind you that it’s all within where we are. It’s not about what’s happening with everything else."
It's this honesty about personal wellbeing that makes us respect Gomez so much (and likely what lead to her being chosen as Billboard's Women of the Year). Just a few months ago, she was very open about her struggle with Lupis, and needing a kidney transplant. As an international role model to people everywhere, Gomez is giving us all a good reason to be more in-the-moment.
