2025 saw plenty of beauty fads come and go, but if there was one consistent trend that characterized the year, it was the big chop. For celebrities, influencers, and fashion insiders, 2025 was the year of the bob&mdash;but it wasn't just any 'do that distinguished the year, it was the French bob. In recent years, hairstyles like the lob&mdash;or <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/10-celeb-inspired-bob-hairstyles" target="_blank" rel="noopener">long bob</a>, for the uninitiated&mdash;and the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/italian-bob-hair-trend-hairstyle-tiktok" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Italian bob</a> have reigned supreme, but this year, stars across the world leaned into the classically chic French iteration of the look.&nbsp;
The bob, as we know it, first rose to popularity in the early 1920s, when it symbolized sartorial freedom and bold independence. Between American flappers and French intellectuals, it became a beauty sensation seen around the world. Somewhere along the way, the style took on a whole new life in French beauty culture, and though it faded into the background in the '40s and '50s, it made a striking comeback during the French New Wave movement.&nbsp;
The French bob&mdash;characterized by a blunt cut around the jawline and that classically tousled Parisian vibe&mdash;has been sported by legends ranging from <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/25-french-actresses-you-should-know-brigitte-bardot" target="_blank" rel="noopener">French New Wave</a> stars Anna Karina and Chantal Goya to modern actresses like <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/most-beautiful-sexy-french-actresses-lea-seydoux-marion-cotillard-brigitte-bardot" target="_blank" rel="noopener">L&eacute;a Seydoux</a> and Juliette Binoche. Now, over a century after it was popularized by movie stars and models of the Roaring Twenties, it's back&nbsp;en vogue&mdash;and all of your favorite style stars of today have hopped on the trend.&nbsp;

To be sure, there's a classic cut that truly gives the French bob a distinct visual identity, but in the modern era, a little bit of experimentation and personalization is to be expected.

Meanwhile, Zendaya started 2025 out with a fresh chop and a glamorously curled bob. Taking a different approach to the look, French model Taylor LaShae opted for a bluntly cut, voluminous style with delicate fringe, while K-pop star Kim Chae-won of Le Sserafim went viral time and time again for her sleek chin-length bob.&nbsp;
