Trench coats, floaty organza skirts, and cropped silhouettes ruled the runway at the Italian label's latest show.

The <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion-week/max-mara-resort-2026-runway-looks" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Max Mara</a> Spring/Summer 2026 presentation offered a brand-new, fresh vision of the modern woman.&nbsp;
For the label's latest collection, Ian Griffiths' inspiration came straight out of the '80s&mdash;the 1780s and the 1980s, that is. The designer reportedly looked to figures like Madame de Pompadour&mdash;the famed French socialite&mdash;where the Rococo elements of the line were concerned, eager to emulate her legendary sophistication in contemporary styles.&nbsp;
Barely-there looks were the name of the game this season&mdash;though Griffiths' creations veered from the perennially popular <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/margot-robbie-naked-dress-sheer-clothing-trend" target="_blank" rel="noopener">naked dresses</a> and sheer styles. Instead, sensuality and boldness came alive in bare shoulders, halter tops, micro shorts, and bandeau tops, keeping consistent with the collection's apparent theme&mdash;chic, but never convoluted.&nbsp;
Given the brand's reputation for its outerwear offerings, it comes as no surprise to longtime fans of the label that the most recent line toyed with <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/trench-coat-fashion-war-history-burberry-origins" target="_blank" rel="noopener">trench coat</a>-forward looks&mdash;but few would have imagined the role that the piece played. Khaki, double-breasted styles, belts, and sweeping silhouettes all had palpable presences within the looks. Despite this, the trench coat in its original form never truly appears on the runway. Instead, sleeveless, cropped, or otherwise deconstructed variations take its place.&nbsp;
In sharply tailored, fitted suits, sculptural floral elements, and sleek organza skirts, the playful spirit of the '80s was alive and well&mdash;complemented by the sensual, feminine elements layered underneath.&nbsp;
Open-toed shoes&mdash;classic thong flip-flops and fisherman sandals alike&mdash;and slouchy, yet sophisticated bags dressed down the collection's looks, adding a hint of effortlessly cool edge, all while maintaining the ultra-chic undercurrent running throughout the line.
