For Kim Jones’s final Louis Vuitton Menswear runway, both Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss walked the runway — with Jones in hand. It’s a remarkable moment given that the two rarely appear together professionally, but are both emblematic of the ‘90s era supermodel — a total coup when it comes to adieus. Further, Jones has never sent a female model down his menswear runway, unlike his contemporaries who often blur the boundary.
In LV-monogrammed trench coats, the two icons walked arm and arm with Jones as he bid farewell to a brand that raised him. In an Instagram post, Jones writes, “this was really a thank you and reference Marc Jacobs’s early 2000s Vuitton and the fact that he was the one that gave me the opportunity.” Jones is referencing the time when Marc Jacobs helmed LV, pre-Ghesquiere. Under Jacobs’s purview, Jones designed menswear.
A deeper message of the move, assuming Jones has not already found a new gig, is that the designer can make the impossible a reality.
