2025 is shaping up to be a huge year for the 31-year-old actress, as she is not only starring in&nbsp;The Fantastic Four: First Steps alongside <a href="https://preview.lofficielusa.com/men/pedro-pascal-cannes-red-carpet-eddington-photocall" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pedro Pascal</a> and <a href="https://preview.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/vanessa-kirby-pregnant-boyfriend-movies-fantastic-four" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vanessa Kirby</a>, but she is also making waves for her leading role in the horror film, Weapons,&nbsp;which critics have called one of the best films in its category to release this year. Fantastic Four&nbsp;hit theatres on July 25, and Weapons comes out on August 8, officially making Garner one of the biggest actresses of the summer.
These two films come on the heels of Garner's earlier project, Wolf Man, which was released across streaming platforms in January. The New York native shines in horror and high-intensity genres, often playing characters that are both personable and slightly eerie at the same time. With gripping talent like hers, we have often wondered about Garner's background, so we rounded up five lesser-known facts about the actress before she takes over all of our screens.

While she might not be a "nepo baby" in the classic sense, Garner does come from a family of artists. Her mother, Tami Gingold, had a successful acting career in Israel before she moved to the United States and became a therapist. Garner's father, Thomas Garner, is an Ohio-born painter and teacher. Between both of her parents, it was clear that pursuing a career in the arts was far from frowned upon.&nbsp;

<h2>She struggled with disabilities growing up</h2>

Garner has opened up in interviews about her childhood struggles, mentioning her severe learning disabilities, which made it incredibly difficult to read. On top of that, she had epilepsy, which led her to have frequent seizures and sicknesses. Between these two challenges, Garner was quite a shy child and took acting classes to learn how to open up. In a 2021 interview with&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wmagazine.com/culture/julia-garner-ozark-inventing-anna-interview" target="_blank" rel="noopener">W</a>,&nbsp;Garner shared the incredible impact acting had on her life, saying, "But when I took acting, I discovered that I could use someone else&rsquo;s lines and still express my own feelings. I loved that, because I felt like I was being heard. And not only that, I felt like I could hear myself for the first time.&rdquo;

Despite landing roles in several roles in projects like Electrick Children and&nbsp;Perks of Being a Wallflower, Garner gained a degree in psychology from the University of Indiana Bloomington in 2015. But the same year she graduated from college, it was clear that Garner was going to be an actress, as she landed the role of Kimberly Breland in the TV show The Americans. In 2016, she was cast as Ruth Langmore in Ozark, and her career took off with the hit series.&nbsp;

<h2>She is married to Foster The People frontman Mark Foster</h2>

Garner and Foster met at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and initially bonded over their Ohio ties, but it took a few years for them to begin a formal relationship. But once they started dating in 2018, after years of running into each other, their relationship moved quite quickly.&nbsp; By the middle of 2019, the "Pumped Up Kicks" singer proposed to Garner while on a road trip in Montana, and by that December, they were married. They had an intimate courthouse wedding at City Hall in New York, just as her parents had 40 years prior, where she legalized their union in a chic pantsuit designed by Danielle Frankel.&nbsp;

In a 2019 interview with <a href="https://thegentlewoman.co.uk/library/julia-garner#:~:text=%E2%80%9CI%20write%20in%20a%20journal,gets%20a%20character's%20accent%20right." target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Gentlewoman</a>, Garner shared an interesting part of her method when it comes to acting. She admitted to journaling as her character to master the role, saying, &ldquo;I write in a journal almost the same way that anybody would write in a journal, except I write as the character,&rdquo; she says. &ldquo;I&rsquo;ll be, like, &lsquo;Dear Diary, today I was really upset at Marty because he didn&rsquo;t give me 10 grand.&rsquo; Or whatever.&rdquo; She also gets a character&rsquo;s accent right." This level of commitment shines through on screen, as Garner continues to morph into a multitude of characters and has mastered everything from sounding like a rural Missourian to Anna Delvey.&nbsp;&nbsp;
