Amandla Sternberg Starts a Revolution in a New Movie

The young actress and activist has superhuman powers in a new movie, The Darkest Minds.

Rue finally gets the revolution she deserves. 

The Hunger Games breakout star will play in a new adapted film about superhuman teens fighting the government in a dystopian world. In the trailer for The Darkest Minds, 16-year-old Ruby (Sternberg) raises her hand and leads a rebellion of teens who develop superpowers after a plague wiped out the majority of children. The movie is based on the young-adult novel written by Alexandra Bracken, and is produced by the people behind Stranger Things and Arrival. This isn't the first film adaptation for Sternberg. Besides last year's Everything, Everything, she will also star in a movie based on the best-selling novel The Hate U Givealongside co-stars Issa Rae and Sabrina Carpenter.

The 19-year-old actress has become a lead activist figure both in and out of the big screen. She's spoken out on cultural appropriation, women's rights, and gender issues. Even Beyoncé is a fan — the singer invited her to shoot scenes for Lemonade and told Sternberg that she wants her daughter Blue Ivy to be just like her.
