Picking up from where the tension between Carolyn Bessette Kennedy and John F. Kennedy Jr. left off in the last episode, Love Story Episode 9 opens with a scene of CBK and JFK Jr. in marriage counseling, attempting to work through their differences. Their counselor advises the pair to undergo a trial separation, so they can eventually come back to their life as a married couple.&nbsp;
After leaving the office, the pair unpack the visit to the office in a dive bar. There, they reminisce on some of their happiest moments together, sparking a romantic moment. The couple enjoys a night together, and have a difficult conversation about what it means for their relationship the next morning.&nbsp;
Carolyn tells John they need to have a serious conversation later, leaving him feeling upset. Later in the morning, he talks out the most recent troubles with Carolyn with his sister Caroline Kennedy&mdash;played by&nbsp;<a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/grace-gummer-interview-love-story-carolyn-bessette-jfk-jr-ryan-murphy-show-release-date-cast" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Grace Gummer</a>&mdash;who reminds him why this relationship is different from his past ones. The morning they plan to head up to Martha's Vineyard for the wedding, excitement and apprehension are in the air. Carolyn calls Lauren and tells her she's feeling unsure about whether or not attending "a big Kennedy wedding" while she and John are in a good place is a good idea, and Lauren tells her to get a manicure and think it over. Meanwhile, John makes a call requesting a weather report for a small flight from Essex County, NY to Martha's Vineyard. In the nail salon, Carolyn is mobbed by paparazzi, further compounding her fears. On the car on the way to the airport, John and Lauren discuss the relationship further when he expresses frustration at her apprehension, and she tells him to be patient&mdash;neither party is going to change overnight. John, Lauren, and Carolyn get into the small plane, which John pilots. John and Carolyn share a romantic moment in the cockpit together, but meters on the plane's control panel begin to spell some trouble. John looks nervous, and Carolyn reassures him, but the scene fades into a Coast Guard office, where officers receive a report of a missing plane.&nbsp;
Officers appear at Caroline's door, where they notify her that John's plane has gone missing. Scenes with various members of public office and family members flash by, as news reports play, emphasizing that there is a search and rescue mission in progress for the missing plane.&nbsp;
Ed Schlossberg finds his wife, Caroline, in their kitchen, where she cries and tells him, "I can't do this again." The next day over breakfast, Schlossberg and Caroline discuss funeral arrangements, while she mourns the life John didn't get to live. Schlossberg and Ann Freeman, Carolyn and Lauren's mother, talk about burial options before Freeman goes back to John and Carolyn's apartment. There, she meets Caroline and the two have a frank, difficult conversation about grief and how to carry on their loved ones' legacies. The two decide to scatter John, Carolyn, and Lauren's ashes in the sea.&nbsp;
