For the presentation, Alessandro Sartori took over a California pier, presenting a summer marked by stripes and a poolside palette.

Just before sunset, the planks of the Malibu Pier ceased to be a pier and became the catwalk for Zegna's Spring/Summer 2027 show. Orange-striped umbrellas, the Pacific in the background, the guests&mdash; Mahershala Ali, Rami Malek, Paul Dano, Gael Garc&iacute;a Bernal, Andy Garcia, and Stellan Skarsg&aring;rd, Oscar-winning composer Ludwig G&ouml;ransson, former NBA star Scottie Pippen &mdash;seated on the planks. For a few minutes, California resembled a Slim Aarons photograph of a Mediterranean summer of yesteryear. It is here that Zegna presented, in the Los Angeles night, next year's summer collection, summed up in the one word that gives it its title: "La Villeggiatura."
Creative director Alessandro Sartori finds inspiration in those Italian summers between the 1950s and 1970s, when families would take their habits, conversations, and wardrobes on vacation for an entire season. This is the framework for a project the artistic director has long pursued: dressing the "liquid life of today." Sartori describes the collection's aesthetic as "firmly rooted in the classics, yet freed from outdated constraints." For a brand from the Biella area to stage this quintessentially Italian ritual on a Pacific pier is, ultimately, a holiday experience applied to the brand's philosophy. Moving one's world wherever it's needed, as already happened with the Villa Zegna format from Shanghai to New York, Dubai, Miami, and Milan.

On the runway, everything begins with stripes. Irregular, sometimes as thin as a single thread, they run across shirts and matching suits, transforming color blocking into a tonal exercise. An ivory-colored striped suit opened over a matching shirt, a sage green seersucker suit worn with Bermuda shorts, a rust-colored coordinated pair with vertical stripes. The silhouette is vertical and loose, or slightly tapered. Tailored Bermuda shorts are paired with blazers featuring hidden, adjustable half-belts. Shirts have detachable and interchangeable collars, the "malleability" that Sartori claims as a signature, and the idea of ​​multiple ways to wear the same garment. Key pieces return and multiply: the belted safari jacket, also available as a short-sleeved overshirt; duster coats thrown nonchalantly over Bermuda shorts; sweaters, Bermuda shorts, and terrycloth trousers, a synthesis of rigor and relaxation.
Leather anoraks and bomber jackets with inlays draw on a nautical world filtered through luxury, while smocked funnel collars and woven suede inserts intensify the interplay of textures. The fabrics reflect the same quest: striped raw silk gabardine, washed hemp poplin, Oasi lino jacquard, seersucker, boucl&eacute; terry, French velvet, and nappa leather.
Even the color scheme follows a dramatic pattern. Starting with neutrals&mdash;shell, dune, pier&mdash;we enter the water with aquamarine, seaweed, and tidewater, rendered in poolside greens and turquoises. Then, accents brighten: mustard, rust, and terracotta, a flag red, a powder blue, and finally, a desaturated black that closes the sequence. Accessories include striped nubuck totes and duffel bags, soft leather loafers and slippers, square sunglasses, and silk scarves.
Finally, Sartori bid farewell from the pier, his hand on his heart. The question that every vacation brings with it remains: how much of a home can truly be transferred elsewhere? Zegna has demonstrated that a certain idea of ​​elegance&mdash;a way of inhabiting time, more than a garment&mdash;travels well, and can find a home under any sky.
