Look up momentum in the dictionary, and you’ll surely find singer-songwriter Uffie as its definition. Just months after releasing her Tokyo Love Hotel EP following a nearly decade-long hiatus, the French-American artist and producer is back again with a new single titled “No Take Me Backs,” which dropped Friday.
The track features the familiar pop-rap sound of Uffie, with lyrics reflecting the more mature attitude the artist displayed on her most recent EP. We hear the singer telling off a lover, rapping “If you had it once, you can’t have it back.” In recognizing her worth, Uffie sings of focusing on her career instead, “Making money for my people” and “Trying to get my mind right/Underneath the limelight.” With lyrics like these atop a playful pop beat, the single is the perfect formula for a summer feminist anthem.
After the success of her most recent EP in February, Uffie has continued to prove 2019 as her comeback year. In addition to releasing her new music, the artist also co-wrote P!NK's title track from her new album, "Hurts 2B Human (ft. Khalid)." She recently performed a packed show at the Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles and is set to DJ at Elsewhere's The Hall in Brooklyn, alongside Little Boots, on June 8th.
In keeping with her momentum, Uffie has exclusively curated a summer playlist for L’Officiel USA, featuring some of her favorite tracks, along with her fresh single, “No Take Me Backs.” Check it out below.
