The hunt for the Moon Person is on. Ariana and Taylor top this year's list, but some fresh faces are hot on their tails. 

It&#39;s that time of year again&nbsp;- the Moon People&nbsp;are about to land. MTV has just announced the nominees for the 2019 Video Music Awards, the premier event&nbsp;to celebrate excellence in music videos. It&rsquo;s also a night known for iconic (if not slightly questionable)&nbsp;looks, career-altering performances, hijinks, and mishaps, and the occasional storming of the stage at an inappropriate time (we&rsquo;re looking at you, Kanye and Aubrey Plaza).

This year, the stage is set for a battle royale between some of the biggest names in pop music. Pop queens Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift lead the pack with ten nominations each. Close on their heels are compellingly dark teen sensation Billie Eilish and hitmaking cowboy Lil Nas X, with the newcomers snagging nine and eight nominations respectively.&nbsp;

K-Pop, undoubtedly one of the most popular global genres right now, has officially scored its own category this year. Fans of leading bands like BTS and BLACKPINK, however, were frustrated to see that their favorites were snubbed from the more general &ldquo;Best Pop&rdquo; category&nbsp;and instead relegated to a category of their own.&nbsp;

Another first this year is the category for &ldquo;Video for Good,&rdquo; which highlights videos with a positive social message. Swift received a nomination for her &quot;You Need To Calm Down&quot; video, which had attracted&nbsp;both praise and a fair share of backlash, putting her up against Halsey, The Killers, Jamie N Commons, Skylar Grey and&nbsp;Gallant, John Legend, and Lil Dicky.&nbsp;

The 2019 VMAs will be hosted by Sebastian Maniscalco, because sure, why not?&nbsp;It&nbsp;will air live from the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., on Monday, Aug. 26, at 8 p.m. ET.
