The world has watched as Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez tied the knot in Venice, so it's time to look back at the most grandiose celebrity weddings of all time.&nbsp;

It's summer, which means a few things: slow, sunny days, time by the water, a long-anticipated vacation...and likely a few weddings in between. We have officially entered peak wedding season, with one ceremony standing out in particular. Newlyweds <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop-culture/jeff-bezos-lauren-sanchez-wedding-venice-celebrity-guest-list" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jeff Bezos and Lauren S&aacute;nche</a>z recently held a multi-day celebration in Venice that was nothing short of opulent. And with that came one of the most star-studded guest lists outside of the Met Gala, with names like Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, Leonardo DiCaprio, and most of the Kardashian-Jenner family in attendance.
As a plethora of private jets and mega-yachts arrived in "The City of Canals," many locals protested the exorbitant nature of the event. While the numbers aren't exact, the entire extravaganza was likely to cost upwards of $40 million, according to Luca Zaia, the president of the Veneto regional government. This included a welcome party near the Madonna dell'Orto church, the ceremony on the private island of San Giorgio Maggiore, a foam party on the couple's $500 million yacht, and more. Additionally, S&aacute;nchez wore a gold, strappless Schiaparelli dress from the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion-week/schiaparelli-spring-summer-2025-runway-review" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2025 couture collection</a>, a pink Atelier <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/prada-group-buys-versace-capri-holdings-billion-dollar-sale" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Versace</a> gown, and a custom <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop-culture/kourtney-kardashian-travis-barker-wedding-italy-dolce-and-gabbana" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dolce &amp; Gabbana</a> wedding dress.&nbsp;
The entire <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/lauren-sanchez-wedding-dress-bezos-wedding-photos" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bezos-S&aacute;nchez</a> affair was essentially a guidebook on hosting a lavish wedding. Yet, there have been quite a few other celebrity ceremonies in the past that definitely hold a candle to this past weekend's event. According to <a href="https://www.theknot.com/content/average-wedding-cost" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Knot</a>,&nbsp;the average American wedding is likely to cost around $33,000, though many celebrity weddings come with price tags that reach well into the millions, and with that comes plenty of glamour and mystique.

This list would not be complete without mention of the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/tags/royalfamily" target="_blank" rel="noopener">royal family's</a> nuptials, from Princess Diana's to Meghan Markle's. These events are much more like cultural hallmarks than weddings, after all. Prince Charles and Princess Diana held their ceremony at St. Paul's Cathedral in 1981, and it was said to have cost $48 million. This comes to around $170 million today. Princess Kate and Prince William's wedding, which took place at Westminster Abbey in 2011, cost roughly $34 million. Lastly, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan and Harry's 2018 wedding ceremony at St. George's Chapel, is said to have cost around $43 million. While it is noted that a majority of costs are accrued for security reasons, these events still remain some of the most expensive of their kind.&nbsp;

Who can forget the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/sofia-richie-is-setting-the-standard-for-maternity-style" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Richie-Grainge</a> ceremony in 2023, which has been featured on wedding Pinterest boards ever since? The couple exchanged vows at the famous Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, and it was nothing short of luxurious. Richie Grainge wore three custom Chanel dresses over the course of the celebration, and the whole multi-day event was roughly $4 million. And of course, Paris Hilton was in attendance!

Jeff Bezos and Lauren S&aacute;nchez weren't the first celebrity couple to famously tie the knot in Venice. <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/amal-clooney-style-moments-george-clooney-kids" target="_blank" rel="noopener">George and Amal Clooney</a> were married in "The Floating City" back in 2014. Both weddings were planned by Lanza &amp; Baucina, a London-based events firm founded by the Italian aristocrats Prince Antonio Licata di Baucina and Counts Riccardo and Aleramo Lanza. The firm also planned Salma Hayek and Fran&ccedil;ois-Henri Pinault's wedding in 2009. The Clooneys' wedding drew guests ranging from Anna Wintour to Matt Damon, who attended a ceremony officiated by the former Mayor of Rome, Walter Veltroni, in Venice. Though the afterparty was the real star of the show, as there were rumours that 100 cases of Casamigos were flown on a private jet from California to Venice for the event. It does help that the Clooneys co-own the tequila company! In total, the whole extravaganza cost around $5 million.&nbsp;

While the entrepreneur and disgraced rapper are <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop-culture/kim-kardashian-kanye-west-getting-divorced-lawyers-settlement" target="_blank" rel="noopener">no longer together,</a> their Florentine wedding had to make the list. The whole event took place between Paris and Florence, as Kardashian kicked off the extravaganza with a bachelorette party at Paris' H&ocirc;tel Costes, a pre-wedding lunch at Giancarlo Giammetti&rsquo;s house, Ch&acirc;teau de Wideville, and rehearsal dinner at the Palace of Versailles for 600 guests. Afterwards, wedding attendees were privately flown to Florence for the wedding ceremony at the Forte di Belvedere. With a performance by Lana Del Rey at the rehearsal dinner and vocals by Andrea Bocelli at the ceremony, it was nothing short of opulent. While the numbers online aren't exact, they range from approximately $3 to $12 million. This wasn't Kim's first rodeo, though, as her 2011 wedding to basketball player Kris Humphries reportedly cost $10 million; unfortunately, that marriage infamously lasted only 72 days.&nbsp;

Another celebrity wedding that took place in Italy, and this one is no less extravagant. <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion-week/every-look-katie-holmes-has-ever-worn-at-new-york-fashion-week" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Katie Holmes</a> and Tom Cruise got married in the Odescalchi Castle, an hour outside of Rome, in 2006. Guests in attendance included David and Victoria Beckham, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, Jennifer Lopez, and more. Although the two actors are no longer together, their wedding is not one to forget, as the entire affair was reportedly estimated to cost roughly $3 million.

Michael Jordan and Yvette Prieto were married in 2013 in Palm Beach at the Episcopal church, Bethesda-by-the-Sea. The ceremony was followed by an afterparty celebration at The Bear's Club, a private golf and living community in Jupiter, Florida. With icons like Spike Lee and Usher in attendance, this Floridian spectacle was quite glamorous, reportedly costing around $14 million.&nbsp;

<h2>Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello</h2>

Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello were married at The Breakers in Palm Beach in 2015. The wedding destination is notoriously expensive, as ceremonies can cost up to $300,000. The actors spared no expense on the celebration, as they hosted a lavish pool party and rehearsal dinner at Cafe Boulud in Palm Beach&rsquo;s Brazilian Court hotel. A-listers in attendance were the likes of Reese Witherspoon, Channing Tatum, and Pitbull. The couple unfortunately divorced in 2024.
