Before the official start of New York Fashion Week, the timeless American designer showcased a great array of elegant ensembles.

When it comes to the idea of elegance, one tends to think high-glamour, no flaws, and certainly not breaking away from the norm. These elements have massively contributed to the modern idea of romance. For Spring/Summer 2027, beloved American designer Ralph Lauren has something to propose: Why not implement a flippant spin on the societal style standard?
Thus, Ralph Lauren's latest collection for his namesake label explores the outcome of the question. Taking place a day before the New York Fashion Week calendar, the show combined classic love elements with bold, statemaking silhouettes alongside a touch of prominent house codes. In essence, there's no better time to put a spin on the traditional than now.&nbsp;
"My Spring 2027 Collection, an irreverent take on romance, creates a new elegance," the designer said in a statement ahead of Wednesday's show. "It's about ways of dressing that celebrate ingenuity, character, and originality—the freedom and fun of creating a style that is truly personal."
After guests headed to their seats and mingled with others, the venue dimmed its lights, one of three white double doors (located in the center) opened, and Andrea Bocelli's iconic vocals filled the space as he sang "Love in Portofino." Sri Lankan model Elina Gunawardena opened the show in an equally subdued and exquisite look.
A white long-sleeved corseted top and matching pair of wide-legged pants play on the body's proportions while revealing the waist. To add to the striking ensemble, Gunawardena rocked a pair of gold dangly earrings with blue accents, a white crocodile-embossed clutch bag with gold hardware, and bright gold pumps. Even though the front may seem laid-back, the top's corset laces add a delicate touch.

Lauren's classic preppy Americana shined through in tailored suits, timeless silk gowns, and floral pieces that redefine the way fashion has traditionally seen the print. However, little details such as leaf-inspired brooches, straw hats, and the transition from feeling blue to lighter beige flowed more easily than expected. Even Bocelli's enticing harmony was able to be passed on to artists Alex Love and Clou.
The use of fringe, ribbed, and crocheted textures showcased the brand's ability to cater to multiple styles. Yet, that skill to adapt shone brightest when feather detailing appeared alongside a denim-heavy outfit, a signature of the label. Plumes continued to take charge in jackets and clutches right before a variation of fringe, textiles, and button-ups were center stage. Oh, and it only made sense that popped collars made themselves known in this collection, as they did for the menswear show in Milan.
With the arrival of purposeful clashing pieces came Sting's "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic," which elevated the already whimsical collection to the max. Gold separates, peacoat-inspired jackets, and stunning colorful gowns added some commotion to the blue and beige party. To close out the collection, French model Louise Galan wore a dazzling metallic dress alongside a pair of multi-stringed floral long earrings, a muted green brooch, a rope-inspired thin belt, and a pair of metallic high-heels. Across the show, the audacity to reimagine a relied-on source while keeping brand elements resonated, especially when the already-done is seen as uninspiring in a time of change.
Once the finale had showcased the variations reinterpretation can embody, the 86-year-old designer appeared from the same entrance where the show began in a pair of aviator sunglasses, a New York varsity jacket, white pants, and a pair of white sneakers. Witnessing the grand parade of romantic looks included Cynthia Erivo, Viola Davis, Ariana DeBose, Elizabeth Debicki, Rachel Brosnahan, Eiza González, Devon Lee Carlson, Sydney Lynn Carlson, Vicky Montanari, Laetitia Casta, Elsa Hosk, Meghann Fahy, Ella Hunt, Sophia Roe, Jeon Yeo-Been, and Gao Yuanyuan, amongst others.
