At The Plaza, Tommy Hilfiger refreshed American prep through relaxed proportions, primary-colors, and subtle branding.

The room began filling before the first look arrived. Guests in nautical attire and East Coast prep—blazers, polos, cable knits, stripes, crisp shirting, and familiar flashes of red, white, and blue—moved through The Plaza Hotel in a scene calibrated to Hilfiger’s American vocabulary. Above them, the ballroom’s vaulted ceiling and ornate chandeliers turned the pre-show mingling into part of the production: polished, social, and unmistakably New York.
The patriotic palette carried additional gravity on the eve of the 25th anniversary of September 11. In a city where fashion often speaks through setting as much as clothing, Hilfiger’s return to the Plaza framed classic Americana as nostalgia and a public-facing expression of New York identity.
The venue itself positions the collection within Hilfiger’s ongoing dialogue with New York and the polished, populist appeal of American style. Since establishing his namesake label in 1985, the designer has built a globally recognizable vocabulary from East Coast prep reframed through red, white, and blue—a graphic signature that nods to the American flag without reducing the brand to costume.
The season-spanning Plaza narrative began with the brand’s Fall 2026 <a href="https://www.instagram.com/reel/DcvE19BIo5o/">Only in New York campaign</a>, which cast Gigi Hadid and newly appointed global ambassador Travis Kelce among a multigenerational lineup of cultural personalities. Hilfiger described Fashion Week on Good Morning America as a meeting point between fashion and entertainment—an intersection that his recent campaign deliberately embraced. In addition to Hadid, JISOO, and Peggy Gou, the cast included athletes Frances Tiafoe, Carmelo Anthony, and Travis Kelce. Hilfiger has frequently pointed to the expanding relationship between sport and style. Athlete arrivals have become their own form of fashion theatre, with the tunnel from team bus to field now operating as an informal runway where personal style is broadcast to fans well before any plays begin.
Opening the runway in bright-red trousers, Hadid brought that campaign story into motion. Her return felt particularly resonant: one of Hilfiger’s most enduring collaborators, she had previously designed capsule collections with the label. The casting underscored Hilfiger’s stated desire to make the hotel a meeting place for different worlds of culture and creativity—a distinctly New York proposition, where sport, music, celebrity, and fashion collide with the ease of an elevator encounter.

The clothes arrived with the confidence of a house fluent in its own codes. Hilfiger's classic Americana was present, just loosened, layered, and deliberately off duty. The contemporary slouch was accompanied by the logo appearing as another subtle signature, with red, white, and blue anchoring the color story along with pops of yellow, tan, and evergreen.&nbsp;
Shirts appeared tailored and almost square and oversized, with a fun remix of the traditional prep collar and generously large short sleeves. A multitude of bucket hats were also present, which returned the familiar, uniformed look back to the more relaxed, streetwise energy.

Tan khaki grounded the collection in its most classic American-sportswear register, appearing in Bermuda shorts voluminous enough to swing with each step, lightweight windbreakers, and single-pleated trousers, then offset by collegiate ties, loafers, soft handbags, and delicate tie-fastened heeled sandals. A standout accessory was a patchwork carryall that compounded the mix, combining tartan, stripe, and logo-adjacent motifs into something intentionally collage-like rather than overly coordinated.

Romeo Beckham, Victoria and David Beckham's son, also appeared in the runway lineup, adding a familiar pop-cultural note to the casting. His presence fits the show's larger equation: a heritage American brand using its established visual language to speak to fashion's current intersection of celebrity, sport, and global youth culture.&nbsp;
