Ever since names like Charli xcx, Jacob Elordi, and Hailey Bieber have taken the lightweight jacket and styled it in seductive ways, the garment has become a certified essential for It girls across the board. Whether it be classics from Adidas, Nike, and Prada, the windbreaker style is finally getting the praise it long deserved.
However, the windbreaker hasn't always been a must-have piece for those in the fashion space.
The thin fabric jacket, also known as a windcheater or cagoules in the United Kingdom and specific Commonwealth countries, is meant to combat wind chill and light rains without the heaviness of a rain jacket. The term "windbreaker" was first introduced by Chicago's John Rissman company, which was later trademarked for its gabardine coats.

Often constructed from synthetic materials, the article of clothing features an elastic waistband, springy armbands, and a zipper to adjust to the weather conditions at the time of wearing. Although most windbreakers have large inside pockets, some may have a removable hood or be a part of a normal jacket's interlining.
From ads in the newspaper to prominent figures rocking the technical sportswear garment, the windbreaker was solely seen as something for warmer weather or a layering technique for colder temperatures. Yet that would significantly change during the Fall/Winter 2026 season.
Using the scope of human bodies in a rather large world, Miuccia Prada's Miu Miu collection spotlighted self-value that evoked a sense of warmth. Trapper hats, trench coats, and mittens are clear pieces meant to brace any chilly situation. Nonetheless, windbreaker-like material made its way down the runway.
The light look first appeared in a blazer jacket, then in dresses, skirts, and long sleeves. After a slew of leather and crinkled ensembles walked down the catwalk, cropped windbreakers were spotted alongside nylon separates, faux fur accessories, and simple polished shoes. Needless to say, the train wouldn't stop here.

Even though only three distinct windbreakers were present in the 41-look show, they made waves online for their bold, fearless, and daring choice.
