For Fall/Winter 2020, designers debuted a grand variety of women's accessories, from reintroducing decades-old classics like Gucci's Jackie bag to pushing out quirky tech gear like Chanel's tweed airpod cases. While all were equally exciting, L'OFFICIEL's global Instagram shopping survey showed that, when investing in designer pieces women are gravitating towards not only pieces that are not only longlasting, but functional, too.
Determining a bag's functionality involves weighing out different factors, and depending on one's daily activities or personal style they might differ. According to our 600,000-plus participants, hands-free purses took precedence, with shoulder bags and crossbodies preferred. While styles like micro and geometric bags are undeniably en vogue at the moment, women right now are desiring a more streamlined bag that they can take from the office to (outdoor) dinner and can carry the belongings they'll need for both. Fendi's Peekaboo, which has different compartments and wearing options with a top handle and shoulder strap, is an ideal option for maximizing its use.
Color is also a consideration of functionality, and women are favoring neutral colorways that can be paired with anything over colorful statement pieces. Even the boldness of a signature print can't compete with the versatility of a solid neutral. When stacked up against a shoulder bag in its signature check print, Burberry's Olympia bag (pictured below in the Soft Fawn beige shade) was favored by 76 percent of women. Featuring an adjustable strap, it can be slung over the shoulder or worn in a crossbody position.
Of course, it's always encouraged to keep room for statement pieces in your closet, but when it comes to making designer investments, we're all for choosing bags that can fit any outfit and occasion.
