&ldquo;Don&rsquo;t be ridiculous, Andrea. Everybody wants this.&rdquo; The fiercely devoted fanbase of the cult-classic is finally getting what they want.

It's finally happening. Miranda Priestly is returning to shoot some more icy glares in a sequel to <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop-culture/devil-wears-prada-best-looks-sequel-news-meryl-streep-anne-hathaway-emily-blunt">The Devil Wears Prada</a> after almost two decades.&nbsp;
The original movie, based on Lauren Weisberger&rsquo;s novel, follows Andrea &ldquo;Andy&rdquo; Sachs (<a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop-culture/anne-hathaway-reveals-she-was-ninth-choice-the-devil-wears-prada-role">Anne Hathaway</a>), a recent journalism graduate who moves to New York City and lands a job at a fashion magazine as a junior assistant for the relentless Editor-in-Chief Miranda Priestly (<a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/meryl-streep-the-devil-wears-prada-method-acting">Meryl Streep</a>).&nbsp;
Streep won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy, along with an Academy Award nomination, as a result of her role. It was also a breakthrough project for Emily Blunt, who played the role of Emily Charlton, Priestley&rsquo;s assistant. The film went on to gross over $326.7 million worldwide in its June 2006 debut.&nbsp;

Puck&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/PuckNews/status/1810433734086201784?lang=en" target="_blank" data-vars-ga-outbound-link="https://x.com/PuckNews/status/1810433734086201784?lang=en" data-vars-ga-ux-element="Hyperlink" data-vars-ga-call-to-action="reported" data-node-id="10.3" class="body-link css-14frelc emevuu60" rel="noopener">reported</a> in July 2024 that Streep and Blunt signed on for the sequel, and it only took a year to finalize everything. On June 30, 2025, 20th Century Studios announced that production had begun with the primary cast&mdash;Hathaway, Streep, Blunt, and Tucci&mdash;all set&nbsp;to return. Also joining the cast: Kenneth Branagh as Miranda&rsquo;s husband. Lucy Liu, B.J. Novak, Justin Theroux, and Pauline Chalamet are also slated to join the cast. Adrien Grenier, however, who played Hathaway&rsquo;s boyfriend in the film, will not be in the sequel, per <a href="https://ew.com/devil-wears-prada-sequel-adrian-grenier-not-returning-11763994" target="_blank" data-vars-ga-outbound-link="https://ew.com/devil-wears-prada-sequel-adrian-grenier-not-returning-11763994" data-vars-ga-ux-element="Hyperlink" data-vars-ga-call-to-action="Entertainment Weekly" data-node-id="16.1" class="body-link css-14frelc emevuu60" rel="noopener">Entertainment Weekly</a>.&nbsp;David Frankel also returns as director, along with writer Aline Brosh McKenna and producer Wendy Finerman.
The movie is set to release on May 1, 2026&mdash;20 years after the original film's release. The sequel follows Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and as she faces off against Blunt&rsquo;s character, now an executive for a luxury group with advertising money that Priestly is seeking.
