On a recent summer afternoon in <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/travel-living/royal-champagne-hotel-spa-france-luxury-escape" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Champagne, France</a>, I was handed the key to a Jaguar F-Pace SVR. Namely, the bespoke Edition 1988. As a New Yorker who hasn&rsquo;t owned a vehicle in nearly five years, the prospect of driving a brand new car on unfamiliar roads (on just two hours of sleep, no less) had me feeling less than prepared for a road trip through the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion-week/dior-men-spring-summer-2023-collection-runway-photos-kim-jones" target="_blank" rel="noopener">French countryside</a>. However, after starting up the supercharged SUV and pulling out of the lot, my concerns quickly melted away.

The F-Pace SVR handles supremely well, taking turns smoothly and navigating the narrow roads of <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/travel-living/josephine-de-la-baume-alexandre-music-siblings-film-noir-moet-chandon" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&Eacute;pernay</a> and Ville-en-Tardenois with ease. A sliding panoramic roof and surround sound system&mdash;which come standard on the Edition 1988&mdash;make for an immersive and comfortable ride.
The luxury SUV has all the performance specs you&rsquo;d expect from Jaguar (a V8 supercharged engine able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 3.8 seconds, and a top speed of 178 mph), plus some standout touches. The specially-formulated Midnight <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/wellness/how-to-use-healing-crystals-amber-the-alchemist" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Amethyst</a> Gloss paintwork is eye-catching, appearing almost black until the sun hits and the deep purple undertones catch the light. Champagne gold wheels, gold interior accents, and unique Edition 1988 fender badging add to the bespoke factor.

An homage to Jaguar&rsquo;s racing heritage, the sporty Edition 1988 takes its inspiration from the <a href="https://www.motortrend.com/features/jaguar-xjr9-v12-le-mans-history/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jaguar XJR-9</a>, a sports-prototype race car that debuted during the namesake year and claimed six wins in the World Sports-Prototype Championship at Jarama, Monza, Silverstone, Le Mans, Brands Hatch, and Fuji. Only 394 examples of the Jaguar F-Pace Edition 1988 will be made. This number was not chosen arbitrarily&mdash;it's the number of laps the XJR-9 covered during the legendary 24-hour <a href="https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a27672259/all-about-24-hours-of-le-mans-race/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Le Mans endurance race</a> in France.&nbsp;
