Tory Burch constantly reminds us of her love for the sea, whether it’s by transporting us to the French Riviera with her classic fragrance Bel Azur, or over to the Mediterranean with the latest scent, Nuit Azur. If there’s one thing better than the summer heat by the beach, it’s the smell of the after-sun air ready to invite us to swim under the stars.

Nuit Azur captures just that feeling. The perfume opens with top notes of violet leaf, fig, and Sicilian mandarin; followed by a bloom of floral facets of pink peony, freesia, orange flower, and jasmine sambac at the heart of the fragrance. Lastly, cedarwood and musk sneak in at the base, transitioning the scent of a bright day into the night. Blending in floral, citrusy, and sensual notes, Tory Burch’s Nuit Azur introduces a bold scent—a welcome to summer after a cold, long winter.

Burch teamed up with Estée Lauder to create the new fragrance, and her hands-on involvement is vital — every new scent represents a part of her life. For Nuit Azur, the 51-year-old business woman and philanthropist drew from spending time at the beach as a child — a tradition she keeps alive today with her three sons.

Ahead, Tory Burch chats with us about the new scent, what her day looks like at the beach, and her ideal summer getaway.

How did you find your love for the sea, which inspired this new fragrance?

I have loved the water ever since I was little. My family would pack lunch early and go to the beach for the day, play games, fish, and swim. We wouldn’t come home until after sunset. My brothers and I still continue this tradition with our families whenever we can.

Who is the fragrance dedicated to? Describe the kind of woman who resembles Nuit Azur.

A woman with a sense of adventure. She is an individual with style and a unique point of view.

How does the new scent make you feel when you wear it?

There is something about the contrasting crisp and salty notes that reminds me of that last dip in the ocean at the end of the day. It’s the hints of violet leaves and fig.

What is your involvement in the creative process of creating a new fragrance?

Very involved and our team partners with Estée Lauder. I love the alchemy of fragrance — combining different notes and seeing how it all comes together. It’s fascinating.

In what ways does Nuit Azur differ from Bel Azur?

Nuit Azur is bold and alluring.

Seeing that your fragrances are inspired by travel, what is your ideal summer getaway?

Southampton and Antigua. Both are escapes.

Tory Burch Nuit Azur is available in stores and online at Sephora, Bloomingdale's and Tory Burch.
