At Lincoln Center, Wes Gordon celebrated 45 years of Carolina Herrera with a collection that welcomes every mode of glamour.&nbsp;

Carolina Herrera's Spring/Summer 2027 runway began in a sweep of Taxi Cab Yellow. Nearly 30,000 yellow tulips filled the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, transforming the space into an exuberant floral threshold for the house's milestone. Under Creative Director Wes Gordon, the anniversary line was the perfect sound stage for the women who are optimistic and deliberate in their attire.&nbsp;

The show's graphic language was immediately legible. Black, white, and yellow established the collection's visual rhythm, with Herrera Red appearing alongside softer shades of Ceramic, Powder, Sorbet, and Cucumber. Taxi Cab Yellow was more than a set-device shade. It travelled from the tulips into the clothes and sharpened the season's energy. The interplay of yellow, black, white, and polka dots also referred to the packaging of Carolina Herrera's first fragrance, designed by Yves Zimmerman in 1988, but the effect didn't depend on recognizing the reference, especially now, since many associate the brand with the iconic heel-shaped fragrance bottles, which also read as high contrast, buoyant, and confident.&nbsp;
The balance between structure and ease extended to the materials. Tweed, cotton poplin, gabardine, and denim provided a practical foundation for daywear, while organza, chiffon, metallic lace, lace, and gazar carried the collection into eveningwear. Definition was another focus, with cinched waists and sweeping A-line skirts flowing with soft movements of chiffon and ribbon-knit textures. The Herrera atelier’s hand was evident in lace, intricate embroidery, and sculptural ruffles constructed from hundreds of precisely cut organza strips. As the pieces shifted with each step, movement itself became a form of decoration.

Founder Carolina Herrera’s personal uniform—a crisp, impeccably tailored white button-down shirt—made a brief but meaningful appearance. Within a collection of yellow florals, polka dots, lace, and ruffles, the shirt offered a precise moment of restraint. It reinforced the idea that femininity need not be presented through one fixed silhouette or mood. Here, it could be sharply tailored, fluid, theatrical, pared back, or somewhere in between, depending on the wearer rather than a prescribed dress code.

The 45th-anniversary collaborations brought added texture to the collection. Among playful accessories like oversized pearls, beaded tassels, zebra brooches, and sculptural handbags covered in cascades of leather flowers, the satin Mimi Bag, and new interpretations of the Pats and Bianca clutches was an Andy Warhol portrait of Mrs. Herrera.&nbsp;
Licensed for the first time, a standout piece was an embroidered dress which recreated the cover of The New Yorker issue that hit newsstands on April 27, 1981, the day of Carolina Herrera’s first fashion show. Meanwhile, a Taffin jewelry capsule produced for the runway used colored gemstones and hand-crafted ceramics to echo the season’s palette and Mrs. Herrera’s personal style.&nbsp;

The lineup portrayed a spectrum of women—not simply “different types,” but a breadth of style identities. Gordon’s collection demonstrated that women with divergent tastes, interests, and aesthetics could all find themselves reflected here. The tailoring satisfied those who prize structure; the flowing dresses appealed to romantics; bold colors spoke to extroverts; and the understated pieces resonated with minimalists. It was a wardrobe designed to unify rather than divide, proving that Herrera’s language of elegance is versatile enough to accommodate multiplicity.
At 45, Carolina Herrera is not interested in standing still. Gordon’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection shows that the house’s most abiding quality has always been its ability to make a strong impression without insisting on one definition of the woman who wears it.
