Take a look at Diotima's Spring/Summer 2027 exploration of the Caribbean Sea through tactile surfaces and sculptural form. &nbsp;

Using the ultimate mother —Mother Nature— as a source point for the collection, Diotima founder and Proenza Schouler creative director Rachel Scott turned to the Caribbean Sea for Spring/Summer 2027.&nbsp;
Her point of departure was not the easy fantasy of resort-ready escapism clad in tropical blue and tan or even mermaids and sirens in crystalline water. Instead, Scott approaches the collection as a force of contradiction: an expansive source of beauty, a passage between islands, a spiritual realm, and a body of water carrying histories of displacement and loss.
The result is a collection that translates a physical landscape into a richly tactile experience, full of natural elements rendered architectural.&nbsp;

The opening look extends those ideas onto the clothing, pairing a deep navy crochet bodice that exposes flashes of skin with plush volume at the hips in inky blue and moss green, grounded by earth-toned trousers.
Scott’s sea was present throughout the collection, though it was rarely depicted directly or literally. It appears instead in the construction and colors that represent water’s less romantic conditions.&nbsp;
The sea shifts, and those shifts can have consequences beyond the visual. With Scott opting for black, white, cream, deep jewel tones of navy, green, and maroon, and a striking flash of yellow, it's apparent that color isn't the entire point here. Instead of relying on color for drama, Scott sharpens the architecture of the garment. Natural fabrics with textured, concentrated volume, green-toned ensembles with woven textures, gathered surfaces, and sculpted folds stand out under the bright white lights and a cream background. The balance between shadowed and muted neutrals and richer tones gives the collection a sense of controlled vibrancy, with color heightening the silhouette.

As the founder of Diotima and creative director of Proenza Schouler, Scott is now working across two different cultures. At Diotima, texture remains especially personal: it is a way of building memory, friction, and atmosphere directly into a garment. Crisp ruffles, biased twill, dense tactile surfaces, gathered fabric, and sculptural folds create a dialogue between nature's fragility and strength.&nbsp;
Scott's show notes speak of an imagined woman gathering fragments from different centuries and islands, with traces of La Sirène, Mami Wata, Oshun, Suzanne Césaire, and the women who lived within colonial plantation houses. Vintage metal napkin rings appear at shoulders, waists, and wrists, while folded fabric resembles napkins. These details suggest ingenuity and transformation.
The strength here is in adornment as an act of authorship: taking what is available, enjoying it, and remaking it into something self-defined. It recalls nature’s capacity to flourish under inhospitable conditions, like a seed blooming through a cracked sidewalk on a hot city street.
